Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Mollepata to Salkantaypampa

Your hotel pickup happens early, and you'll head to Mollepata for breakfast before the real trekking starts. At Soraypampa (around 3800m/12,500 ft), you'll meet the horsemen and horses that'll carry your camping gear for the next few days. From there, it's a hike up to Humantay Lake at 4200m/13,780 ft, where you get your first real views of the valley below. After heading back down to Soraypampa for lunch, you'll continue on to the basecamp at Salkantaypampa. The Salkantay peak dominates the view from here. You'll have afternoon tea and then dinner as you settle in for the night.

After an early breakfast at basecamp, you're trekking for about 3 hours to reach Salkantay Pass at 4600m/15,090 ft, which is the highest point of this whole trip. The descent takes you to Wayrac Machaq where lunch happens. From there, you've got another 5 hours of hiking ahead through high jungle terrain with tall trees, streams, and orchids and bromeliads covering everything. You'll reach the campsite at Chaullay by evening for dinner and a chance to rest up.

Then it's another 3 hours of hiking to get to Aguas Calientes. Unlike the previous nights in tents, you're staying in a hotel here, so you can actually take a proper shower and sleep in a bed before the big day tomorrow.

The tour was great with all the activities and experiences. They took care of all modes of transportation, from picking us up from the airport to dropping us back to catch our flight. Our guides Ronal and Tito were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. There was some disorganisation and confusion with the company for the itinerary we had booked and what they had scheduled us for, so be careful when checking in to check the details. But they immediately took care of it the moment we let them know. The lodge and rooms were great. This is out in the jungle, and the staff tries to keep it as close to nature as possible. But a fan, some extra toilet paper, and some more vegetarian meal options would have made it a little more comfortable.

The tour was overall good. Our guide was very helpful and super fun! Accommodations were cozy for someone who travells like a backpacker it was fine for me but if you're someone who stays in higher ends this might not be for you. The food the whole time was great but was not included. Machu Picchu was incredible and we go amazing spots and the adventure the entire way was beautiful and exciting. I would recommend this tour!

    Asked on February 4th, 2024

Is there an age limit? (Our group is in age group of 22-60 years old) and are training for the trek. Do you provide duffel bag or do we have to bring our own duffle bags? What is the weight limit for the duffel bag(including sleeping bags)? What kind of tent accommodations do you provide? Does it have any mattresses? How many people in a tent? What kind of toilets are available? Am assuming that we can rent sleeping bags and hiking poles from you. What is the cost? Do you provide any rain jacket/poncho for traveler? Do you offer an upgrade to vista-dome train ride back?

We can depart with your group without age limit, you'll have assistance during all the time. We provide a duffel bag, and can carry with you a small bag with the most necessary items for your trip. With the duffel bags just 5kilos per person include sleeping bag. 1° and 2° night you'll have large tents of 4 people for accommodation of only 2 people for their comfort, suitable for the altitude and cold of the area and 3° night in a hotel. About bathrooms they are as the traditional. You can bring with you your own sleeping bags and walking poles, but in case you'll need we can give them. Sleeping bag price is US$ 25.00 and Walking poles is US$ 25.00 (We can organize them at least one day before your departing). For the moment we don't provide ponchos for rain. In case of vistadome you can add US$ 20.00 per person, in your briefing time too.

If we rent sleeping bag from you, what will be weight of it? 5 KG for all personal stuff including sleeping bag seem too little and so wanted to check if most people are able to manage it.

    • CondeTravelOperatorWritten February 2024

You can rent the sleeping bag with us, the weight is 1kg and half, but you can put the sleeping bag plus 5 kilos of personal stuff!
