Itinerary
- Day 1
Mollepata to Salkantaypampa
Your hotel pickup happens early, and you'll head to Mollepata for breakfast before the real trekking starts. At Soraypampa (around 3800m/12,500 ft), you'll meet the horsemen and horses that'll carry your camping gear for the next few days. From there, it's a hike up to Humantay Lake at 4200m/13,780 ft, where you get your first real views of the valley below. After heading back down to Soraypampa for lunch, you'll continue on to the basecamp at Salkantaypampa. The Salkantay peak dominates the view from here. You'll have afternoon tea and then dinner as you settle in for the night.

Salkantay Pass to Chaullay
After an early breakfast at basecamp, you're trekking for about 3 hours to reach Salkantay Pass at 4600m/15,090 ft, which is the highest point of this whole trip. The descent takes you to Wayrac Machaq where lunch happens. From there, you've got another 5 hours of hiking ahead through high jungle terrain with tall trees, streams, and orchids and bromeliads covering everything. You'll reach the campsite at Chaullay by evening for dinner and a chance to rest up.

Cloud Forest to Aguas Calientes
After breakfast, you're heading through cloud forest for around 3 hours. The trail follows rivers and passes waterfalls along the way. By midday you'll reach Hydroelectric for lunch. Then it's another 3 hours of hiking to get to Aguas Calientes. Unlike the previous nights in tents, you're staying in a hotel here, so you can actually take a proper shower and sleep in a bed before the big day tomorrow.

Machu Picchu to Cusco
Breakfast happens early, then you're catching buses up to Machu Picchu to see the sunrise. Your private tour guide walks you through the site and explains what you're looking at. Once the guided tour wraps up, you'll take a train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo, then hop on a bus for the ride back to Cusco. It's a full day of traveling but you'll be back in the city by evening.
