- Day 1
Arrival in San José
Your guide meets you at the airport and walks through what's coming up during your Costa Rica trip. After that, you'll head to your hotel to get settled in. This evening, there's a welcome dinner in San José so you can relax and get oriented.

Irazú Volcano - Cartago - Dota
Following breakfast, you'll drive east to Irazú Volcano National Park, which sits as Costa Rica's highest volcano and offers great views from up there. From there, you're heading to Cartago to check out the Basilica of Our Lady of Los Angeles, a colonial city landmark. Next comes Lankester Gardens where you can walk through their plant collection. By evening you'll transfer to Dota.

- Day 3
Cloud Forest
Early morning hike with a local guide who knows where to find the Resplendent Quetzal, one of those rare birds you don't see every day. They know the nesting and feeding spots well. The rest of your day opens up for exploring the Tropical Cloud Forest or wandering through the village of San Gerardo.

Landmarks Tropical Cloud Forest (Dota) - Day 4
Rey Currés - Drake Bay
You'll experience quite a shift as you leave the Cloud Forest and drive through several different landscapes: the Subalpine Paramo, Lowland Rainforest, and Mangrove swamps before hitting the Pacific coast. There's a stop at the Rey Currés indigenous community where you can browse their craft store and see original Boruca masks. Drake Bay is where you'll settle for the night.

- Day 5
Caño Island
A boat takes you out to Caño Island, which sits in the South Pacific and teems with marine life. The island holds pre-Columbian artifacts and some say it inspired Robert Stevenson's Treasure Island. Along the way, watch for dolphins, whales, sea turtles, and rays. Your guide is from the only locally owned and managed tour operation there.

Landmarks Caño Island - Day 6
Corcovado National Park
You're going into Corcovado National Park on the Osa Peninsula, one of the most biologically rich places around and home to rare virgin lowland tropical rainforest. At San Pedrillo Station you can look for tamanduas, tapirs, and peccaries. The park has over 500 tree species, 367 bird species, plus lots of mammals and reptiles.

Sierpe Mangroves - Manuel Antonio
Starting with a boat ride from Drake Bay to Sierpe, then a boat tour through Sierpe Mangrove where you'll spot birds, fish, mammals, and reptiles in the wetlands. After that, you transfer to Manuel Antonio where white sand beaches are right there for relaxing, or you can hike the National Park trails to see monkeys, sloths, and coatis if you prefer.

- Day 8
Savegre River - Manuel Antonio
A 4x4 takes you through remote jungle to Silencio for breakfast, a typical local meal. Then into the mountains for rafting the Savegre River with Class II, III, and IV rapids in small sturdy rafts. You'll stop at swimming spots and waterfalls, spotting egrets, toucans, and parrots along the 13-mile stretch. Lunch is back in Silencio before heading to your hotel.

Manuel Antonio
The day is yours to explore Manuel Antonio National Park where rainforest meets white sand beaches. White-faced capuchin monkeys are common sights here along with other wildlife. As evening comes, you'll take a sunset cruise from Quepos Marina sailing past the Manuel Antonio beaches with snorkeling, local music, dancing, and drinks included.
