Itinerary
- Day 1
Las Vegas to Death Valley
You'll start early from Las Vegas and take a 5-hour shuttle to Death Valley National Park. Once you arrive, head to Furnace Creek Visitors' Center to pick up your backcountry permit. From there, you'll drive across the valley floor to Aguereberry Point for lunch with great views of the surrounding landscape. After lunch, you'll do a 3.5-mile hike down Trail Canyon to warm up and get a feel for the terrain. Along the way, you'll see the historic Eureka Goldmine. Later in the afternoon, you'll head to camp to set up your tents and get settled for the night.

- Day 2
Death Valley
After a filling breakfast, you'll tackle an 8.4-mile hike up Wildrose Peak with 2,200 feet of elevation gain. The trail takes you through pinon-juniper forest and passes by historic 25-foot stone masonry kilns from the 1870s silver smelting era. Once you reach the summit, you'll have views across both Death Valley and Panamint Valleys, and on clear days you can see the Sierra Nevada and Telescope Peak off in the distance. You'll make your way back down to camp for a hearty dinner and rest.

- Day 3
Death Valley
You'll eat an early breakfast, then drive 15 to 25 minutes to Mahogany Flat Campground at around 8,000 feet elevation. From there, you'll hike between 5 and 10.5 miles depending on snow or ice road conditions, with elevation gain ranging from 1,500 to 4,000 feet. Your wilderness campsite will be about 5 miles from the trailhead on a saddle between Banner and Telescope Peaks. If conditions look good and your group is feeling strong, you can attempt the Telescope Peak summit for views over two miles high. Otherwise, you'll rest at camp and go for the summit early the next morning.

- Day 4
Death Valley to Las Vegas
If you didn't summit yesterday, you'll wake early and try Telescope Peak this morning. After you reach the summit or if you summited already, you'll pack up camp and hike 5 to 6.5 miles back down to your vehicle, descending between 1,500 and 2,000 feet. You'll grab a celebration lunch at your vehicle, then start the 5-hour shuttle back to Las Vegas while thinking back on your trip.
