The best thing was the variety that Morocco offers - mountains, desert, coast, cities - scenery, history, people, food. Highlights include exploring the medina in Fes with its handicrafts, visiting Ait Benhaddou (long on my travel list), the walk in Todra Gorge, the Roman city of Volubilis and driving through the Atlas mountains.

Having a meal with a family in Fes dressing up in costumes and dancing with them afterwards. Picnic lunch in an olive grove. Swimming in freezing cold pools. Glamping in the desert and the camel ride in a sandstorm. Tea with a family in the mountains. Walking aound Toughra gorge and along Essaouria beach. Deep snow not far from Fes Awesome views everywhere especially across the Atlas mountains. This holiday lived up to its title 'The best of Morrocco '.

I loved the desert and mountain scenery most. Several of the cities were on my 'to see' list (Casablanca, Fes, Essaouira and Marrakech), and I'm glad I saw them. I enjoyed the souks and especially the town of Essaouira, which was very pretty.

    • Explore!OperatorWritten April 2025

The trip includes the 4WD ride. This is one of our cultural trip so not extrememely strenuous. On day 8 there can be a hike: There are two hiking options, a circular walk which is 10km in length and a hike to a viewpoint at Abdelali and back which is 6km. We usually undertake the 10km hike, however the route is exposed to the elements, so depending on the weather, we might opt for the shorter option. The trek begins in the middle of the narrow gorge following the main road before joining a small mule path going up gradually along a ravine. The path climbs about 500m to a small pass with views looking down the gorge and the Jebel Sahro range. The descent is 550m and is again on a rocky, narrow path that can be steep in some sections. The trek is considered as moderate-to-challenging and in high temperatures it can be more demanding. Walking boots with ankle support are essential. If you don't fancy the hike, you might like to explore the gorge valley floor, following the path of the river, or take in the scenery from one of the nearby cafes. You can add the single supplement then.
