Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Athens to Evia

    You'll meet at Athens International Airport at 6pm and take a bus to either Rafina or Marathon port. From there, catch a ferry across to Evia, then ride a short taxi or minibus to Karystos where you'll board the MV Isidoros II. After meeting the crew and having a welcome drink, you'll settle into your cabin for the night.

    Petali Archipelago

    The boat sails toward the Petali Archipelago, seven private islands that once hosted the Greek Royal family and now attract shipping magnates. You'll have chances to swim from the boat before heading to Marmari, a traditional fishing village with local tavernas and shops lining the waterfront. Dinner is at a waterfront taverna this evening.

    Kampos to Marmari Walk

    You'll transfer to Kampos village and walk around the Lycorema headland through agricultural land and vineyards to reach Marmari. After checking out the traditional fishing village with its waterfront tavernas and cafes, the boat sails around the headland in the afternoon, heading back to Karystos.

    Panagia Village Walk

    This morning you explore Panagia fishing village on foot. Later, you'll drive up country lanes to Zarakes, then visit the mountain village of Argyro with its red-roofed houses before descending to the coastal hamlet of Agios Dimitrios. You'll walk back along the coastal road to Panagia, and by evening the boat cruises to Eretria, one of ancient Greece's most famous cities and where the alphabet was born.

    Styra Valley Walk

    You'll transfer to the rolling hills above a small summer resort near the prehistoric Dragon Houses. From there, walk down ancient paths through olive groves to the Valley of Styra and back to the harbor. As the sun sets, the boat cruises to Marmari.

    After an hour by taxi, you'll reach the secluded Agios Dimitrios on Mount Ohi. Then comes a walk along an ancient trail through a dramatic gorge with limestone cliffs, aromatic plants, and colorful wildflowers alongside a river. You'll reach an isolated beach on the east coast with views of the Aegean Sea before driving back to the boat.

    Following breakfast, you'll take taxis to Mili and walk up to the traditional villages of Gourna beneath Mount Ohi peak. Continue along paved paths and dirt tracks to the old Venetian castle Castello Rosso, where you'll see views back toward Gourna, Mount Ohi, and the coast. You'll return to the boat and transfer to a hotel in Karystos for your final night.

    You'll depart Karystos early and take a short taxi or minibus ride to Marmari or Styra to catch the ferry back to Rafina or Marathon around 9:50am. From there, you'll transfer to Athens International Airport, arriving around 11:30am. Schedule your flight no earlier than 1:30pm.

    traveling with the group on a small boat was unique. The accommodations are tiny but worked. The visit to the museum and dig on Evia was very interesting. Thanos showed us some great local restaurants. The food was really good. Everyone was very kind.
