Head back to Horombo for lunch, then spend the afternoon resting and letting your body adjust to the altitude. Talk to your guides about short walks in the area and make sure you're drinking plenty of water since the harder days are coming up.

Watch for giant groundsels and lobelias as you cross the moorland, and after skirting Mawenzi Peak, you'll enter the stark, lunar-like landscape of the Saddle. You'll finish at Kibo Hut, and it's important to get to bed early because you have a very early start tomorrow.

You might catch the sunrise from Gilman's Point at 5,685 metres, with Mawenzi Peak silhouetted behind it. If you still have energy, keep going for another 2 hours along the crater rim to reach Uhuru Peak, Africa's highest point, where you can see the crater and ice fields. The Serengeti half of the trip was great. Except there were three bus days where nothing really happened. Some included activities on these days would be great. For the Kilimanjaro part. It was all done in a bit of rush. Was made to feel like I was slowing things down if I stopped for a picture or to have some water. Also, seems to be a lack of concern over health worries. Just being told you're fine is nice, but a bit more of an actual check would have been nice.

An absolute bucket list trip! From pitching tents next to a herd of zebra on the rim of the Ngorogoro crater to the gruelling final push to the Uhuru Peak on summit of Kilimanjaro this trip delivered everything we wanted and more. The guides for both parts of the trip were just outstanding, we've used intrepid a number of times before and while we've loved all the trips this is by far the best one we've been on yet. One word of advice for those wanting to climb Kilimanjaro - it's a beautiful and very achievable climb but the summit push is extremely tough and can be dangerous so listen to the guides!!!! They are the experts and will get you to the summit slowly but safely. You might think you're walking too slowly on the easier parts of the climb but you will thank them at the summit. Thanks to all the team at intrepid for an unforgettable trip!
