Itinerary
- Day 1
Nairobi to Mount Kenya
You'll leave Nairobi in the early morning and drive through farmland heading toward Chogoria town, where you'll stop for lunch. After that, you'll switch into 4x4 vehicles and head to the bamboo forest edge. From there, the trek begins with a 10 km walk through thick bamboo forest. By evening you'll reach Mount Kenya Bandas for dinner and your first night on the mountain.

Mount Kenya Bandas to Camp at 3,600m
Following breakfast, you'll organize your porter loads and start trekking upward at a relaxed pace. You can choose between two routes: the scenic path via Lake Ellis with views of Mugi and Ithanguni, or head upstream along the river where the vegetation and foreground scenery are really nice. After lunch by a stream, you'll climb up the left hillside to reach camp around 3,600m, positioned away from the main tourist traffic.

Camp at 3,600m to Mintos Hut at 4,200m
An early start has you trekking along a ridge off the main path for about 3 hours until you connect with the standard Chogoria route at roughly 4,100m. The views over Gorges Valley and the Northern Moorlands are quite something. You'll break for lunch at a stream crossing, then walk another hour to Mintos Hut at 4,200m. The afternoon opens up for rest, and a short 10-minute walk to the Temple, a 150-meter cliff face, comes highly suggested.

Landmarks Gorges Valley Temple - Day 4
Mintos Hut to Austrian Hut
The day involves trekking upward along some massive rock walls. After climbing for roughly 2 hours, you'll reach Tooth Col where the views of Mount Kenya are excellent. You'll then traverse from Tooth Col over to Austrian Hut, where dinner and overnight accommodation wait.

Landmarks Tooth Col - Day 5
Austrian Hut to Old Moses Camp via Point Lenana Summit
Start moving at 5:00 AM for the summit attempt, climbing for an hour across bare rock and scree to reach Point Lenana, the hiker's peak, right in time for the African sunrise. After that, you'll drop down to Shipton's Camp for breakfast and some rest. Then begins a 5-hour gradual descent through Mackinder's Valley to Old Moses Camp at 3,300m, giving you time to take in the moorlands along the way.

Old Moses Camp to Nairobi
After an early breakfast, you'll descend for 3 hours down to Sirimon Park Gate. There a vehicle meets you for the transfer back to Nairobi, where you'll arrive in the late afternoon.
