    Trappers Lake

After breakfast you'll hike 7 miles from Trappers Outlet Trailhead heading south along the lakeshore. The first mile passes through forest that's recovering from a 2002 fire, where wildflowers and young pines are growing back. From there the trail leaves the lake and climbs gradually to 11,300 feet onto the Flat Tops plateau. You'll find a campsite for the night and settle in after dinner. The night sky here is some of the clearest you'll see.

    Asked on January 19th, 2022

Can you help me on some questions regarding this tour please? 1. I see that we will be sleeping in tents for 3 nights. What about one more? Since it's a five-day-tour? 2. What does it exactly mean a backpacking tour? Will I need to carry everything with me for the whole duration of the trip?

For the Flat Tops Explorer 5-day tour, you will camp four nights. Yes, you will carry everything you need for all five days on your back, in the backpack we provide. There is a layover day on day three where you will do a day hike from camp, carrying less weight that day.

If I'm going to carry everything on my back, how big is the backpack? I mean with all the items that I need to bring according to your list. If I'm flying from NYC to Denver, I'm not sure how to bring all my stuff but a luggage, but there will be no space for it, right?

    • Wildland TrekkingOperatorWritten January 2022

The pack you will likely be issued will be a 75L backpack but could be 65L. Our sleeping bags are synthetic due to being professionally laundered after each use so must be durable, which means bulky, unfortunately. If you have a down or more compactable 0 degree synthetic bag, it would be recommended to take with you to save weight and space. You will be able to leave your luggage in the vehicle during the hike. If able to travel with a suitcase that is carry-on size, that is ideal.

What would be the maximum Backpack weight (including tent, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, bear canister, personal clothing, toiletries, etc.) 4. Do you have a packing list?
