Danube Cruise for Solo / Single Travelers Reviews
- The beautiful blue Danube (port-to-port cruise) (from Passau to Budapest)
With this cruise on the Danube you get beautiful scenery and interesting historic places to visit, the only quibble being that the cruise didn't start in Passau as advertised (we were bussed to Linz). Excellent greeting by the crew/staff, who were all friendly and at least bi-lingual (French/English) - the cruise guests were predominantly French-speaking, with just a few English-speaking, but all information was given in both French and English, even the excellent Budapest history talk. The cabins are small and air-conditioning didn't work well on hot nights. The boat is kept clean and it is lovely sitting up on the top deck watching the scenery. Food is a single choice at lunch/dinner, but was nice - perhaps a bit plain initially but got better and was well presented. We would have liked some local dishes. There's a reasonable selection of the included drinks (cocktail du jour, wines, beer, juice, aperitifs, digestifs). It is excellent that bottled water is freely available at all times. You have to ask for milk for tea/coffee and there are no tea pots. We didn't take the offered excursion package, but those who did found it quite busy, no lazy breakfasts. Probably better to DIY if you're happy to put in the research beforehand. A couple of things to mention about hop-on-hop-off buses if you book them: in Vienna the "Vienna Sightseeing" buses multilingual commentary is hard to control and don't work for some seats, but was informative; in Budapest the "CitySightseeing" buses are better technically, but the actual commentary is not as good and they don't include the advertised bike tour.
- The beautiful blue Danube (port-to-port cruise) (8 destinations)
The tour was very good, the crew were excellent, very helpful, approachable and informative and always available. The tours were great and the Danube is wonderful to cruise on. The food was of excellent quality but the fact that there was no choice on the menu was poor and we feel there should have been an earlier sitting for dinner, and lunch could have been a buffet. The accommodation was adequate but the shower was totally inadequate. We enjoyed the cruise

Which areas along the Danube are most welcoming for solo travelers?
Vienna Budapest and Bratislava stand out as especially welcoming cities for those traveling alone. Each offers reliable public transit systems compact historic districts and casual dining scenes. Solo visitors often gather at Vienna's traditional coffee houses or Budapest's eclectic ruin bars in the Jewish Quarter.
