- Private Inca Trail to Machu Picchu - 2 Days
A few months before traveling to Machu Picchu, I reached out to 5 different Machu Picchu tour operators to inquire about their offerings. While everyone was quite similar, there were a few very important and very specific details that TrexPerience offered that outshined everyone else, and it was a no-brainer for us to book our trip with this great team. Here were the items that made the difference that made us choose TrexPerience. 1. It was no issue specifying exactly which train time and cabin type we wanted to and from Machu Picchu. We were staying at El Albergue in Ollaytaytambo - the actual location of the train station - meaning we were extremely flexible, yet other companies were forcing us into train times that they preferred. Also, on the return trip, we wanted to see the scenery all the way to Poroy station in Cuzco rather than having to take the bus all the way from Ollaytaytambo, and Trexperience was totally okay with that, explaining that many tourists prefer to disembark at Olly and take the bus to Cuzco as it is shorter time to travel, and that sometimes it is only option as weather can prevent the train from getting to Poroy, but if the weather cooperated we could get all the way to Poroy, and we were very happy to experience this part of the trip - a very pleasant section of the trip where only a few people remained on the train. 2. Incredibly efficient communication before and during travels. Emails and WhatsApp messages were replied to immediately. The COVID situation in Peru and Machu Picchu was seemingly changing every couple of days, and Trexperience always relayed the latest information, including accurately projecting which permits would likely be available when we actually arrived. 3. Hotel option in Aguas Clients was higher rated compared to others…and it ended up being an incredible room at the Susanna Inn overlooking the raging Urubamba River and had a great breakfast in the morning. 4. Arranging a combination of getting us a duffel bag for some items to go to Aguas Calientes and other items to get back to Cuzco. They also ended up letting us keep the duffel bag which was very kind and necessary as we had acquired some gifts and needed extra space.
What our customers ask about 3 Day Hiking & Trekking Tours & Trips
What's the best season for a hiking tour?
The perfect time for your trek really depends on where you're going. If you're heading to Nepal's Poon Hill, plan for October-November or March-April when you'll get clear views and comfortable temperatures around 59-68°F (15-20°C). For Peru's Colca Canyon, aim for April through October - you'll enjoy temperatures of 68-77°F (20-25°C) and very little rain. One of our TourRadar travelers shared: "We had very good weather and lovely scenery from Poon Hill in early June. The spring season turned the whole country into paradise with contrast of white snow-capped peaks."
What can I expect to see on a 3-day trek?
You'll experience a mix of natural wonders and local culture in just three days. On Poon Hill, you'll catch incredible sunrises over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains. If you choose Colca Canyon, you'll spot condors soaring overhead and visit small traditional villages. In Vietnam's Sapa region, you'll walk through the beautiful Muong Hoa Valley and meet local minority communities. Here's what one TourRadar traveler said about Poon Hill: "The views from Poon Hill were incredible with dramatic scenery of rolling hills, valley and snow-capped peaks providing 360-degree panoramas of the Himalayas."
What fitness level do I need for a 3-day trek?
You'll need a moderate level of fitness for treks like Bolivia's Choro Trail or Nepal's Poon Hill. Most days involve 5-8 hours of walking. On Poon Hill, you'll climb to 10,531 feet (3,210m) and cover about 6.2 miles (10km) each day on different types of terrain. One TourRadar traveler shared their experience: "Although it was my first time in Nepal, our guide Rakesh made the trek successful and memorable, adapting to different hiking abilities while ensuring everyone completed the journey comfortably."
How much walking is there each day?
In Sapa, Vietnam, you'll walk 5.5-7.5 miles (9-12 kilometers) daily, taking 4-6 hours as you pass through villages like Lao Chai and Ta Van. If you're trekking in Nepal's Kathmandu Valley, expect to walk 6-7.5 miles (10-12 kilometers) over 5-6 hours between places like Sundarijal and Chisapani. As one TourRadar traveler put it: "The trek was challenging but manageable, with plenty of stops for photos and rest at scenic viewpoints."
Where will I sleep during the trek?
Your accommodation will vary based on your destination. On Poon Hill, you'll stay in local tea houses in villages like Ghorepani. The Choro Trail involves camping outdoors, while Sapa offers comfortable hotels like the Qoya Palace in town. Many travelers love the local stays - one TourRadar traveler noted: "the family in the tea house where we stayed were so accommodating and it was extremely clean and well facilitated."
How will the altitude affect me?
You'll encounter different elevations depending on your trek. Sapa stays at moderate heights, while Poon Hill reaches 10,531 feet (3,210m). Colca Canyon involves big elevation changes between 8,858 feet (2,700m) and 15,942 feet (4,859m). You'll need to pace yourself and adjust properly to the altitude. One TourRadar traveler shared: "The altitude on Poon Hill was challenging but our guide ensured we took adequate breaks and stayed hydrated, making the ascent manageable even for first-time high-altitude trekkers."
