  • Days 1-2

    Athens

    Your journey starts with a transfer from the airport to your city center hotel. Get an early start on day two with an 8:00 AM visit to the Acropolis to avoid crowds and heat. After touring the Acropolis Museum until 1:30 PM, spend your afternoon exploring the charming Plaka neighborhood. Consider booking your hotel in Plaka or Monastiraki for easy walking access to the main attractions.

    Piraeus to Kefalonia

    Head to Piraeus port by 11:00 AM for a 1:00 PM departure. Skip the expensive taxis and take the X96 bus from central Athens. The 45-minute ride is much more practical. Bring motion sickness medication since the waters between mainland Greece and the islands can get rough.

    Dubrovnik to Kotor

    Arriving in Dubrovnik at noon, plan your city walls walk for early morning or late afternoon to avoid heat and crowds. The next day in Kotor (8:00 AM arrival), climb the fortress early. It's a challenging 1,350 steps but the bay views make it worthwhile. The old town is especially beautiful as evening approaches.

    Bari

    Take time to explore this Italian port city. The old town, Bari Vecchia, comes alive around 9:30 AM. You might spot local women making orecchiette pasta right on the streets. Visit the Basilica di San Nicola before 11:00 AM to beat the tour groups.

    Corfu to Katakolon

    Morning light is perfect for photos of Corfu Town's Venetian buildings. When in Katakolon, take an early train to ancient Olympia. The 30-minute ride gets you there before the site gets too hot. Spend your afternoon at the port's waterfront restaurants.

    Athens Return

    Plitvice Lakes to Split

    Split to Dubrovnik

    The coastal drive to Dubrovnik takes 3 hours. Walk the city walls first thing in the morning to avoid heat and crowds. Set aside 2 hours for the complete walk. Take the cable car up Mount Srđ before sunset to get the best photos of the "Pearl of the Adriatic."

    Montenegro Day Trip

    Plan for a full but rewarding day around the Bay of Kotor. Start your morning in Perast. If you get carsick bring medication for the winding roads. Take a boat to Our Lady of the Rocks before tour groups arrive. Spend your afternoon exploring medieval Kotor then head to Trebinje for the night.

    Bosnia & Herzegovina

    Sarajevo to Belgrade
