Budget Tours & Trips to Cambodia And Vietnam Reviews
- Best of Indochina in 21 Days
Positive Points: 1. The sites/activities elected for the visits very good 2. Local guides were excellent 3. Timely and efficient hotel/airport transfers 4.All lodging was clean and comfortable 5. Ease of contacting operator to assist with questions/problems Negatives: 1. Notice given to us as to the program for the upcoming day and/or flights came to us last minute at several points in our tour leaving us unsure as to what to do and requiring our reaching out to operator for assistance. We should not have had to do so. 2. Two hotel locations were not suitable. (A) In Ho Chi Minh City we were dropped off from the airport along a main street and told that our hotel (Prague) was "down there" We walked along a crowded, noisy, roughly paved side street to find the hotel with no assistance. Area was noisy and staff would not honor our request for a room change to quieter location until operator intervened. (B) In Luang Prabang, the hotel was well removed from interesting part of town. It was not within walking distance of anything of interest. Given that operator left us with 2 free days at tour's end, we decided to leave the hotel and book a suitable place by ourselves nearer points of interest. Neither of the hotels had good reviews. We were extremely disappointed in the operator's selection of those places for out tour. 3. For unknown reasons to us, our tour itinerary was changed. We did not expect to have to unescorted days at the end of our tour in Laos. We left home assuming we would be flying to Siem Reap on day 15 (Dec 13). Instead we got notice that our flight would be on Dec 11 and that we would be on our own for the last two days of our tour (Dec 17 and 18). Still a mystery to us and we wonder what we missed as a result. Suggestions: 1. Do not use Vietjet. We booked our arrival to Vietnam with them and they bumped us with alternative flight for 2 days after our Indochina Tour was to begin. Later, our flight to Ho Chi Minh was delayed many hours with no communication for Vietjet as to when it would be leaving. Vietnam air, I think, would be a much better option. 2. We suggest 2 nights in Sapa. To spend 6 hours traveling each way for 1 overnight is too much. The walks we did there were very nice, but we had no time to enjoy the town or engage in some other activity in that area.
- Cambodia: Ancient Ruins & Boat Rides
our guide/ceo was very informative and organized. She was the best tour guide I've ever had! I would definitely use her again for a tour given the opportunity!

What our customers ask about Budget Tours & Trips to Cambodia and Vietnam
What are the best budget-friendly areas to stay in Cambodia and Vietnam?
The bustling Old Quarter of Hanoi offers wallet-friendly spots like HM Boutique Hotel with convenient access to local life. Budget travelers often choose Ho Chi Minh City's lively Pham Ngu Lao district home to the practical Elios Saigon Hotel. In Siem Reap the Wat Bo area provides good value with options like City River Hotel though some travelers note it requires extra walking to main attractions. According to a TourRadar guest: "The hotels were well positioned with everything nearby although the Cambodian hotel was a bit far from everything."
When is the most affordable time to visit Cambodia and Vietnam?
Travel costs drop significantly during April-June and September-November. Hotels like Rosaleen Boutique in Hue and King Grand Boutique in Phnom Penh offer better rates during these months. Prices peak from December to February when crowds arrive. A TourRadar traveler notes: "I went in December to somewhat avoid the humidity although it was cool on the upper deck of the boat. You will need a hoodie or something with long sleeves."
How much should I budget for local transportation when not included in the tour?
Daily transportation costs run about 5-10 USD. Getting around Siem Reap by tuk-tuk costs 2-3 USD per ride while Ho Chi Minh City motorbike taxis charge 1-2 USD. Longer routes like Phnom Penh to Siem Reap by bus cost 6-8 USD. One TourRadar guest shared: "Transportation was well planned and organized though some long bus journeys could be upgraded to flights for convenience."
What is the average daily budget needed for meals not included in budget tours?
Set aside 15-20 USD daily for meals outside the tour package. While tours cover breakfast and select lunches or dinners especially during Halong Bay cruises or Mekong Delta trips local food costs vary. Street food in Hanoi's Old Quarter or Siem Reap runs 2-5 USD while basic restaurants charge 5-10 USD per meal. A TourRadar traveler notes: "Not as many meals included in Thailand so I needed more spending money than anticipated but the experience was worth every penny."
Are entrance fees to major attractions included in budget tour prices?
Most tour packages cover key sites like Angkor Wat (37 USD) Cu Chi Tunnels (10 USD) and Halong Bay (13 USD). Extra activities such as the Hanoi Water Puppet Show (6 USD) or additional temple visits cost extra. A TourRadar guest confirms: "All entrance fees were included for the main sites but there were plenty of optional activities available if you wanted to do more."
What type of accommodation can I expect on budget tours through Cambodia and Vietnam?
Budget tours balance comfort with value offering clean basic rooms in hostels guesthouses and hotels. Properties range from HM Boutique Hotel in Hanoi to City River Hotel in Siem Reap. A TourRadar traveler shares: "the accommodation exceeded my expectations and was very nice." Experiences include overnight train rides in 4-berth sleeper cabins and traditional Mekong Delta homestays giving travelers an authentic taste of local life.
What's the typical group size for budget tours in Cambodia and Vietnam?
Tours usually host 12-16 travelers balancing cost efficiency with personal attention. As one TourRadar participant shared: "Our group of 15 was perfect - small enough to get to know everyone but big enough to keep tour costs reasonable. We had great group dynamics which made the journey even more special."
