Coastal Walks in Greece Reviews
- Walking on the Greek Islands
Very knowledgeable and personable guide. Walks were interesting and not too demanding. Restaurants for evening meals were well chosen by guide.
- Secret Cyclades: Hiking Holidays on Kythnos island
We were met at the airport by our Guide Danae, a cheerful woman of great energy. She led our intrepid group with the help of George, her Kythnos Island guide. Our accommodations both in Athens and in Kythnos were lovely. Each day was a new adventure - a new hike - an opportunity to drink in the lovely scenery, the fresh air, and the lovely goats. And the cooking and pottery lessons were so much fun! Each meal (provided and purchased) was a feast of fresh, healthy food all prepared with such devotion - honestly I had no idea Greek food was SO good. Our weather for early spring and a little chilly - but clear skies - so although we wore all of our clothes we were happy. I'd easily recommend Trails Beyond. I hear they do tours off the coast as well in the Mountains! Greece may see me again!
What our customers ask about Coastal Walks in Greece
When is the best time to go on a Coastal Walks tour in Greece?
Greece Coastal Walks are most enjoyable from May to October when conditions are right for both hiking and swimming. The shoulder seasons of May and September bring temperatures of 20-25°C on Crete and Corfu with fewer tourists on the trails. The island of Kythnos shows its best side in June when hikers can cool off at beaches like Kolona and Apokrousi. A TourRadar traveler noted about their May trip: "We really lucked out going in May because the whole island was covered in a sea of wild flowers. The temperature was good a little windy but comfortable."
How long are typical daily walks on Greek coastal trails?
Most coastal walks cover 12-22km (7-14 miles) and take 4-8 hours with stops. The Corfu coastal trail from Liapades to Agios Georgios stretches 14.5km with 490m elevation gain while Crete's route from Agia Roumeli to Loutro extends 15km. According to a TourRadar traveler: "The walks required good fitness levels - our coastal walk took about 7 hours instead of the stated 5 but the stunning sea views made it worthwhile."
What are the accommodation options on Greece Coastal Walks tours?
Travelers stay in a mix of traditional guesthouses and family-run hotels along the coast. Options range from Ms. Zoe's guesthouse overlooking Kythnos port to beachfront properties in Corfu's Liapades and the historic White House in Kalami. Crete offers traditional pensions like Hotel Nathalie near popular trails. A TourRadar traveler noted: "Our room was lovely and overlooked the harbour. Every morning we enjoyed breakfast on the terrace so relaxing!"
What are the must-see highlights of a Coastal Walks tour in Greece?
The routes combine natural wonders with historical sites. Key stops include Europe's longest gorge Samaria in Crete the unique Kolona beach in Kythnos connected to Agios Loukas islet by a sand strip and Corfu Trail's panoramic views of two seas. Archaeological sites like ancient Lissos and Vryokastro add historical depth. As one TourRadar traveler said: "The walks were a great mix of history culture and wildlife. Each hike was different and went to the scenic areas of the island."
What about food options during Greek Coastal Walks?
The routes pass through villages with authentic tavernas and waterfront restaurants. Hikers find fresh seafood in fishing communities like Loutro traditional mezedes at places like Thomas's Place in Kalami and local dishes in mountain villages. Tours include breakfast and places like Hotel Nafsika in Vamos serve traditional Cretan food. A TourRadar traveler shared: "The food was delicious and plentiful especially the fresh seafood in the coastal villages."
How do the coastal walks differ between Greek islands?
Each island presents its own walking character. Crete offers challenging terrain with gorges and mountain-to-sea paths like the White Mountains to Loutro route. Corfu features easier coastal trails with Venetian influences around Paleokastritsa and Kalami. Kythnos provides more solitary walks connecting villages to hidden beaches like Apokrousi. One TourRadar traveler noted: "Each day was a new adventure - a new hike - an opportunity to drink in the lovely scenery the fresh air and the lovely coastal views."
