What people love about Rovaniemi Tours
- Lapland & Husky Highlights - 5 Days
Going to Lapland in winter was always a dream. This did not disappoint. Right from the start of organising this, the team were a great help. They did everything possible to try find availability and make it all work so that we could do this trip. Loved the day trips we did and the accommodation was amazing. Didn’t have to think about anything as it was all organised. 100% would recommend this trip.
- Aurora Borealis & Glass Igloo
Great basic tour that organises all of your transport and accommodation, but doesn’t really feel like a group tour in that there is lots of free time/self-paced exploring or availability to do additional activities, which was a big plus for us. We went to the frozen waterfalls nearby and can highly recommend! Absolutely stunning! Our tour guide Alain was absolutely delightful and very helpful, even waiting at the airport the whole last day to make sure everyone got on their flights with ease. Buffet style breakfast included in the accommodation was excellent! The husky sled ride was a definite highlight for us. The only disappointing aspect was that the glass igloos were covered with ice and you couldn’t see the sky at all. Not sure if there was an issue with the heated glass, but we also stayed in other glass ceiling accommodation and there was no glass on the ice, even in -22C! Overall a very good experience.
- Midnight Sun – 7 Days in Lapland
Lorenzo was a fountain of knowledge when it came to the nature (which was 99% of the tour). Super interesting listening to his facts about everything in sight. He was super friendly and accommodating throughout the whole tour.
What our customers ask about Rovaniemi Tours & Trips
What are the best months to visit Rovaniemi to see the Northern Lights?
The Northern Lights season in Rovaniemi runs from late September through March with optimal viewing between 9 PM and midnight. February and March typically provide the clearest skies for aurora spotting. Local guides recommend joining aurora hunting tours that venture beyond city limits into darker wilderness areas. Recent visitors who stayed at the Arctic Snow Hotel & Glass Igloos report that while aurora intensity varies the glass igloo setup creates ideal conditions for viewing the night sky.
How much time should I plan for visiting Santa Claus Village?
A visit to Santa Claus Village located 8 kilometers from central Rovaniemi needs 3-4 hours to explore properly. The village sits directly on the Arctic Circle line and includes key attractions like Santa's Post Office personal meetings with Santa and local craft shops. Visitors report that a morning is sufficient though some find a half-day visit allows for a more relaxed pace. Regular shuttle services run from major hotels including Scandic Pohjanhovi to the village entrance.
How early should I book activities and accommodations in Rovaniemi?
Winter season bookings from December through March require planning 4-6 months ahead particularly for specialty lodging like the Arctic Snow Hotel & Glass Igloos. The Christmas and New Year period demands even longer lead times often 8-12 months in advance. Recent guests note that premium winter activities like Northern Lights tours and husky safaris fill quickly. Properties like Hotel Aakenus often reach capacity months before peak season begins.
Where are the best places to stay in Rovaniemi for first-time visitors?
First-time visitors benefit from staying either in the city center or near Santa Claus Village. The centrally located Santa Claus Hotel puts guests steps from dining and shopping while Santa's Igloos Arctic Circle offers direct access to the village attractions. For aurora viewing the Apukka Resort sits 10 minutes from town in a darker setting ideal for night sky observation. Guest feedback consistently highlights the dual advantages of Santa's Igloos Arctic Circle for both daytime activities and nighttime aurora watching.
How much do winter activities typically cost in Rovaniemi?
Winter activity prices in Rovaniemi start at 85 USD for husky safaris and range up to 170 USD for snowmobile adventures. Northern Lights tours begin at 89 USD while specialized experiences like ice floating cost 88 USD. Reindeer farm visits with sleigh rides often come included in larger tour packages. The Santa Claus Village offers free entry though photo sessions with Santa carry additional fees. Specialty accommodations such as glass igloos range from 200-400 USD per night.
What are the best ways to experience the Northern Lights in Rovaniemi?
Northern Lights viewing in Rovaniemi centers around guided excursions that travel 50 kilometers from city lights. Local spots like Poro-Pekan Pirtti reindeer farm combine aurora watching with traditional Finnish campfires. The Northern Light Village Pyhä features Aurora Cabins designed with heated glass roofs allowing guests to search for the lights while staying warm. Visitors regularly praise the combination of comfortable viewing setups and authentic Finnish outdoor traditions.
