I recently had the opportunity to explore the Indus Valley Civilization with Gypsy Trace and Tours, and it was an excellent experience. The tour company provided exceptional facilities, including knowledgeable guides, comfortable transportation, and well-planned itineraries that made the journey seamless and enjoyable. The visit to the Indus Valley Civilization sites was truly fascinating. The well-preserved ruins of Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa offered an incredible glimpse into one of the world's earliest urban civilizations. The guides provided insightful historical context, making the ancient structures come alive with their stories. Facilities provided by Gypsy Trace and Tours included modern amenities, ensuring a comfortable stay and easy access to the archaeological sites. Their attention to detail and customer service were top-notch. For anyone interested in ancient history and archaeology, this tour is a must-visit. I've just finished a 2-week private tour of Northern Pakistan organised by Exploria. The mountain scenery is absolutely epic and the people were universally warm and welcoming. Exploria put together a good itinerary and things went relatively smoothly. Western tourism here is limited to don't expect a super polished experience and be careful of the food in Deosai (I ended up with a bad case of food poisoning). That said, Rakaposhi and Nanga Parbat basecamps are two of the most beautiful places I've ever visited and I'm keen to come back to see more. Thanks for a great trip, guys!

Best tour companies for Pakistan tours
From what our travelers tell us, three companies stand out for exploring Pakistan's northern regions. Exploria gets consistently good feedback for their guided trips through the Hunza Valley and Karakoram Mountains - their local guides really know the territory and help visitors connect with local communities in meaningful ways. Gypsy Traces & Tours has built a solid reputation with their Fairy Meadows and Premium Pakistan packages. Their team is quick to respond when needed, picks comfortable places to stay and works with guides who share fascinating stories about the region's past and present. For anyone interested in Gilgit-Baltistan specifically, Crossroads Adventure comes highly recommended by our customers. Two of their guides, Altaf Ahmed and Sultan Uddin, get mentioned often in reviews for going above and beyond - whether it's explaining local customs, finding the best photo spots or making sure everyone's comfortable on long driving days through the mountains. The nice thing about these operators is they all know how to balance showing you the major sights while also taking you to places most visitors never see. They've figured out the logistics of traveling in some pretty remote areas, which lets you focus on enjoying the experience rather than worrying about the details. [Note: I've maintained the key information while making it flow more naturally and personally, removed problematic words, and integrated specific details in a conversational way]
Best places to start your Pakistan tour
Most of our Pakistan tours start from Islamabad - about 81% of customers begin there. While you can start from Lahore, Karachi and sometimes Hunza Valley or Skardu, Islamabad just works better with all the connections and infrastructure. Looking at our bookings across different seasons, you'll want to lock in your tour about 58 days ahead. This extra time helps us sort out alternatives if mountain weather affects flights. It's smart to build in some wiggle room at the start of your trip and pack some snacks for the longer drives. Our travelers particularly love visiting in spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) when temperatures are mild and mountain views are really clear. The Hunza Valley is especially nice these times of year - you'll catch either the apricot trees in full bloom or rich autumn colors, depending on when you go.

The cherry blossoms transform northern Pakistan in spring, and we time our mountain tours perfectly to catch the full bloom. Photographers in our groups love shooting in Hunza Valley where pink and white flowers frame the snowy peaks perfectly. Spring kicks off our Karakoram trekking season - we take routes from Skardu into Nangma Valley just as local shepherds move back to their summer grounds. The spring tours get you right into local life - you'll cook with families in Hunza, visit the working gardens at Khaplu Fort and catch authentic music shows. Baltistan is wonderful this time of year too, with ancient Buddhist sites and traditional villages set against orchards in full bloom.

Our groups particularly enjoy camping in Nangma Valley where local Balti performers share their music under the stars. The Karakoram Highway journeys hit their stride in summer too, with clear weather giving you amazing views of giants like Nanga Parbat and also Rakaposhi.

What our customers ask about Pakistan Tours & Trips
What's it really like traveling in Pakistan - is it safe?
Look, while the media can paint a different picture the northern areas especially Gilgit-Baltistan Hunza Skardu and the Karakoram corridor have excellent safety records for international visitors. Francesca who's been traveling for 25 years around the world confirms this and mentions how professional local guides like Fareed who grew up in these areas really make you feel secure. The Hunza Valley stands out - there's practically zero crime and the local communities are incredibly welcoming.
When's the best time to go to Pakistan for different experiences?
Spring from March to May is beautiful with cherry blossoms in Hunza and nice moderate temperatures perfect for exploring the culture. If you're into photography autumn September through November gives you amazing fall colors and super clear mountain views. Summer June to August lets you get up to those high places like Deosai Plains at 4100m and Khunjerab Pass at 4733m though some passes stay snow-covered till late June. Winter turns Naltar Valley into this amazing ski destination and you can see cool stuff like the frozen Attabad Lake. Down south Karachi and Lahore stay pretty comfortable year-round great for checking out Mughal architecture and archaeological sites.
Where can you really connect with local culture beyond the tourist spots?
Head to Ghulkin village in Upper Hunza where you can join in traditional apricot harvesting and learn to make dawdo soup with local families. The ancient village of Ganish is UNESCO-recognized and shows you these incredible centuries-old water systems. Over in Gulmit there's this great Bulbulik Music School where you learn about traditional instruments and a Carpet Center run by local women entrepreneurs. The Kalash Valley's really special - you can experience one of the world's most unique cultural minorities especially during festivals like Chilam Joshi in spring.
How do you get around Pakistan efficiently?
PIA runs daily flights between major cities especially the important Islamabad-Skardu and Islamabad-Gilgit routes though weather can change schedules. The famous Karakoram Highway stretches 1300km from Abbottabad to Kashgar and it's quite an experience. When you're heading to remote spots like Fairy Meadows or Hushe Valley you'll need local 4x4 jeeps especially for tough routes like Raikot Bridge to Tattu Village. Cities have premium transport services for more comfort and Pakistan Railways connects all the major urban areas.
What should travelers know about respecting local culture and customs?
Keep it modest - cover shoulders and knees and local clothes like shalwar kameez work really well for both comfort and cultural respect. Learn some basic Urdu but remember there's regional languages too like Burushaski in Hunza or Balti in Skardu. When you visit someone's home take off your shoes and always accept tea when offered - turning it down isn't great culturally. Always ask before taking photos especially in rural areas and religious places. If you're a female traveler local female guides like Anita from Exploria can really help you understand things better and get access to women-only spaces.
