- Day 1
Budapest Arrival
Land at Budapest Ferenc Liszt Airport and take a 30-minute private transfer to the city center. Stay at the K+K Hotel Opera in the lively 6th district, which is perfect for walking around. Get some Hungarian forints at the airport. While most places take cards, small cafes and thermal baths often prefer cash.
- Day 2
Budapest Exploration
Start your day at Heroes' Square around 8:30 AM before crowds fill the area. The Castle District tour involves uphill walking, so wear good shoes and pack water, especially during summer when it gets up to 85°F. Visit Matthias Church, then head to Fishermen's Bastion before tour groups arrive at 11 AM. In the evening, take a Danube dinner cruise. Ask for a window seat on the port side to get the best views of Parliament.
- Day 3
Budapest to Vienna
Take a first-class train through the Hungarian countryside. The trip takes about 2.5 hours. Book around 10 AM to avoid Budapest's morning rush hour. Once you reach Vienna, your hotel near the Ringstrasse puts you in a perfect spot. Take time to walk this beautiful boulevard and stop at classic spots like Café Central for coffee and sachertorte.
- Day 4
Vienna Highlights
Get to Hofburg Palace right when it opens at 9 AM to beat the crowds. Plan 2-3 hours for the Silver Collection and Sisi Museum. Visit the Naschmarkt food market in the afternoon to try local foods and wines. If you're going on the evening Grinzing tour, bring something warm to wear. The hilltop gets cool even in summer.
- Day 5
Vienna to Prague
- Day 6
Prague Exploration
Visit Prague Castle at opening time (9 AM). You'll need at least 3 hours here. To avoid crowds on Charles Bridge, cross before 10 AM or after 4 PM. Watch the astronomical clock in Old Town Square from the quieter Týn Church area. For the evening river cruise, check sunset times to see the city lights at their best.
- Day 7
Prague Departure
If you have a morning flight, leave early. The airport is 30-45 minutes away and morning traffic can be bad. For later flights, store your bags at the hotel and shop around Pařížská Street or enjoy a trdelník pastry in Old Town.
7 Days in Prague, incl. Old Town and Castle District
Prague's treasures unfold at Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, and Jewish Quarter. Settle in at Lunik Hotel, savor a Vltava dinner cruise, and consider an optional Staropramen Brewery visit. Perfect mix of guided tours and independent exploration.
- Day 1
Arrival & First Impressions
Book mid-morning flights to avoid Prague's intense rush hour traffic. Once you settle into your city center hotel, stretch your legs with a walk around Wenceslas Square. A recent visitor shared: "The central location was key—we could easily walk to the main sites and found great heated terraces for dining even in December."
- Day 2
Castle District & City Tour
Start your morning around 10:30 AM with a guided tour. Prague Castle is massive at 70,000 square meters, so wear comfortable shoes for the cobblestone paths. Visit the National Museum, Dancing House, Jewish Quarter, and Old Town. Stick with your guide through the Castle District. The historical background really brings the place to life.
- Day 3
Charles Bridge & Lesser Town
Beat the crowds by crossing Charles Bridge before 8 AM. Spend your morning exploring Lesser Town (Malá Strana) and visit the stunning Baroque St. Nicholas Church. In the evening, take a 3-hour Vltava River dinner cruise. A visitor noted: "The river cruise views were spectacular, though focus on the scenery rather than the buffet dinner. The beer was reasonably priced and the night views of the castle were worth it."
- Day 4
Beer & Local Culture
Visit the Staropramen Brewery to learn about Czech beer culture through their audiovisual tour and tasting. Spend your afternoon in the local cafés of Vinohrady neighborhood, where you'll find authentic Czech pubs away from tourist spots. The outdoor heated seating is perfect for watching city life go by.

We were very pleased with the tour arrangements, although I seem to remember that they had a maximum of 30 people per tour. All of ours were more than that. Some of the guides didn't speak very loudly and we couldn't hear what they were saying.
