  • Days 1-2

    Harstad and Vesterålen

    Start by getting your rental car at Harstad/Narvik airport (EVE). Try to arrive in early afternoon so you can get comfortable with driving while it's still light out. Stay in Harstad for your first two nights - it's perfectly positioned in the northern lights belt. You can take day trips north to see the Vesterålen Islands where you'll find stunning mountain scenery and quiet beaches.

    
  • Days 3-4

    Andenes and Whale Watching

    Move on to Andenes at the top of Andøya Island. This area is one of the best places in Norway to see whales with a 95% chance of spotting them. Take a 2-4 hour whale safari but pack warm clothes no matter the season. The Arctic wind gets pretty cold out on the water. The drive there on Road 7698/7702/82 gives you great ocean views and you might spot seals and eagles along the way.

    
  • Days 5-6

    Reine

    Take the ferry from Melbu to Fiskebøl to reach the Lofoten Islands. Try to avoid peak times in summer when lines get long. Book a traditional fisherman's rorbu in Reine well ahead of time. These water cabins on stilts are very popular. Visit the fishing villages of Å and Henningsvær where you'll see red cabins set against rocky mountain peaks.

    
  • Days 7-8

    Svolvær

    Stay in Svolvær next. It's the main town in Lofoten. Stop at the Lofotr Viking Museum on your way but get there before 10 AM to avoid the crowds. If you like being active try kayaking from Svolvær. The water is usually calmest early in the morning which is good for beginners.

    Return to Harstad

    On your way back visit the Lofoten War Museum in Svolvær to learn about the area's WWII history. Leave extra time for the drive back to the airport. You'll probably want to stop for photos along the way.

  • Days 1-2

    Oslo:

    Arrive at Oslo Airport Gardermoen and take the Airport Express train to Oslo Central Station. It's your best option during rush hour, beating taxi times consistently. Your first afternoon is perfect for exploring the walkable city center. Start day two early at Frogner Park (Vigeland Park) to beat the tour buses that arrive around 10 AM. Get the 24-hour Oslo Pass for free public transport and museum entry. Visit the Norwegian Folk Museum and Fram Museum but plan your route since they're on opposite sides of the peninsula.

    Oslo to Flåm:

    Book window seats on the right side of the Oslo-Myrdal-Flåm railway for the best fjord views. Consider motion sickness pills for the 20 steep tunnels on the Flåm Railway. Visit Ægir Brewery for their Viking plank dinner but arrive early their house-brewed beer often runs out by evening.

    Flåm to Balestrand & Geiranger:

    Take the afternoon express boat to Balestrand, sitting on the upper deck for the best Sognefjord views. Head to Briksdal Glacier early on day 5 before the crowds arrive. The viewpoint walk takes about 45 minutes on rough terrain so wear shoes with good grip.

    Geiranger:

    Start your morning in Geiranger before the day-trippers arrive. The walk to Flydalsjuvet viewpoint is steep but rewards you with incredible views of cruise ships entering the fjord. Take the afternoon Hurtigruten cruise to Ålesund for amazing views of the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord.

    Ålesund to Bergen:

    Walk through Ålesund's Art Nouveau streets in the morning. Climb the 418 steps to Aksla viewpoint early for the best city views. Catch your afternoon flight to Bergen and pick a window seat for aerial fjord views.

    Bergen:

    Visit Bryggen wharf before 9 AM to see the iconic wooden buildings without crowds. Buy Fløibanen funicular tickets online and go during early morning or dinner time to avoid long lines.   • Days 1-2

    Oslo and Train to Trondheim
