6 Day Indonesia Itinerary, incl. Komodo National Park and Flores
Explore Flores over 6 days, from Labuan Bajo's harbor to Komodo National Park's wilderness. Trek Padar Island's peaks, visit Pink Beach's colored shores, and discover Taka Makassar's unique sandbar. Includes guided Komodo dragon tours and manta ray snorkeling.
- Day 1
Sanur, Bali
- Day 2
Sanur to Labuan Bajo
- Days 3-4
Komodo National Park Live-aboard
Your houseboat adventure begins with a visit to Kelor Island. The 20-minute climb is steep but rewards you with panoramic views. Wear sturdy shoes on the slippery volcanic rocks. On Komodo Island you will trek with park rangers to find the famous dragons. The rangers know their stuff but remember to keep your distance from these powerful creatures. Pink Beach offers excellent snorkeling opportunities so bring an underwater camera. Visit Manta Point between 11 AM and 2 PM when the tide is right for almost guaranteed manta ray sightings. The water can get cold so pack a light wetsuit or rash guard.
- Day 5
Taka Makassar and Kanawa Island
- Day 6
Departure from Labuan Bajo
4 Day Komodo & Flores Itinerary, incl. Labuan Bajo and Rinca Island
The rugged 4-day Flores tour combines Labuan Bajo's rich culture with Komodo's untamed landscapes. Wander through Batu Cermin cave, complete a 4km trek on Rinca Island, and dive into crystal waters at Pink Beach. Comfortable nights await at Bintang Flores Hotel with daily breakfast and lunch, including guided dragon encounters at Banunggulung station.
- Day 1
Denpasar to Labuan Bajo
Take an early morning flight from Bali to Labuan Bajo. The flight takes about 1.5 hours. Book the earliest flight possible to make the most of your first day. Visit the local fish market before 9 AM to see the best selection of fresh tuna and dried squid in action. For the Batu Cermin cave visit, bring sturdy shoes and a flashlight. The limestone formations create interesting light reflections during mid-morning.
- Day 2
Komodo Island Adventure
Start at 6 AM for your 3.5-hour boat ride to Komodo Island. The trek to Banunggulung is a 4-kilometer round trip that needs moderate fitness. Bring lots of water and sun protection since you won't find much shade. You'll see more dragons in the morning when they're most active. At Pink Beach, go to the right side of the bay for the best snorkeling. The coral gardens start just 5 meters from the shore. Use reef-safe sunscreen to protect the marine life.
- Day 3
Rinca Island and Island Hopping
The boat trip to Rinca takes 2 hours. You'll likely see more dragons here than on Komodo since they're concentrated in a smaller area. The 4km trek takes about 2 hours - wear closed shoes on the rocky paths. In the afternoon, go island-hopping between Manjarite, Kelor, and Bidadari. Bidadari has excellent snorkeling with the clearest water and best coral. Check with your guide about currents as they can be strong.
- Day 4
Return to Bali
5 Days in Komodo Islands, incl. Labuan Bajo and Rinca Island
The captivating 5-day Flores excursion winds through Goa Rangko cave, Warloka's historic port, and Rinca Island's dragon sanctuary. Each day offers 2-3 hours of island kayaking, reef snorkeling, and peaceful camping on secluded shores of Seture and Kelor.
- Day 1
Labuan Bajo to Seture Island
Your journey starts at Puri Sari beach in Labuan Bajo with a morning safety briefing. Pack light dry bags for your kayak. One traveler suggests "bring ziplock bags for cameras, as conditions can get splashy." You'll paddle to Bedadhari Island for snorkeling and lunch before exploring the beautiful Goa Rangko cave with its crystal-clear lake and limestone formations. Your night is spent in safari-style tents on Seture beach.
- Day 2
Seture to Kelor Island
Start with breakfast then paddle about 2 hours to Pungu Pearl farm to see local pearl cultivation. Next stop is Menjerite for lunch and snorkeling. One traveler notes: "The snorkeling spots were generally away from touristy places, with incredible coral colors far better than the Great Barrier Reef." The day ends at Kelor Island where you can climb a small hill for sunset views. You'll camp on Kelor's beach for the night.
- Day 3
Kelor to Kaaba
Paddle to Kukusan village and its local school if it's in session. Next up is exploring Gado's mangroves. After lunch walk through Warloka fishing village to see ancient artifacts from 2000 BC. Your day finishes at Kaaba Island where according to a recent visitor "thousands of bats fly into the night sky for their evening meal."
- Day 4
Rinca Island and Manta Point
Take an early boat to Rinca Island to see Komodo dragons. A ranger will guide you safely showing you not just dragons but also macaques buffalo and deer. One traveler advises: "Go early before the heat builds up and stay close to your ranger—the dragons are faster than they look." After lunch paddle to Manta Point to snorkel with manta rays. You'll camp at Sebayor Kecil's beach.
- Day 5
Final Day to Labuan Bajo
