What people love about Nile Valley Tours
- Magic of Egypt with the GEM museum tour. (free All inclusive upgrade hurghada resort)
My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. I would rank the whole tour to five stars and probably leaning more towards five. In 12 days I don't think there was much of Egypt that we really missed. The overnight train ride was about the only thing that I would rank as being two stars or in that range simply because of the fact the condition of the sleeper car. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't well maintained but I'm still glad we did it. All the hotels and the ship on the Nile were all first class and the guides were tremendous. I've done a lot of overseas traveling and as tours go for what you got out of it I'd rank this as one of the best. Do be prepared for a lot of extra expenses when we got to Egypt the guide that we met at the hotel sat and went over all the side things you could do and by the time we were done it over doubled the price of the tour but the tour was so reasonable to start with that didn't really bother me.

We booked our Egypt tour through TourRadar and I was bit leary about it since this is my first time booking anything on TourRadar. The entire process through tourradar was easy, painless, and overall fantastic. As impressed I was with Tour Radar, I am even more impressed with Egypt Direct Tours and especially Ahmed who made the entire tour about hospitality and an amazing customer service. From the moment, I booked the tour, I had few things that I wanted to change in the original tour.. Ahemd worked with me on meeting my ask of specific hotel as well as extending the tour to work better with our schedule. He presented number of options and even entertained/considerately explained why I shouldn't select of my options that I sent his way. Ahemd said to me at one point that Sanjay.. You will experience and see our great service.. At the time I took that to be just another sales person talk but I was pleasantly surprised and amazed that Ahmed meant every word and did more than I imagined. Ahmed personally came to receive all 7 of us who were arriving at different times at the Cairo airport. He stayed with all of us until we were all checked in the hotel. What was even more surprising that he handed me a hotspot stating that the hotspot was mine for the next 10 days while I was on the trip. He sent Maha (our Cairo tour guide) and Mahmoud the next day and both of them made sure that we had an excellent tour(s) around Cairo and Giza.. I saw calls from Ahmed to Maha making sure that we were doing okay.. he also checked with me throughout our trip checking in and making sure that everything was okay.. He was there the entire trip in Cairo.. At the airports .. no matter what time .. He personally took care of everything.. All 7 of us appreciated the amazing customer service. He made us feel like family and provided an awesome example of Egyption Hospitality.. Few things that I would mention that were somewhat of an issue for me... 1) Barcelo Hotel in Giza is nice but the first 2 days we were on the 6th floor and it wasn't very good.. The tail end of the trip, we were on the 11th floor and rooms were good. 2) Egypt does not work well for vegetarians so if you are vegetarian.. you will have issues.. be prepared for that.. We ate Falafel and Koshari most the time as well as had sugarcane juice twice a day .. 3) The Nile River Cruise was good but it could have been even better.. This is not an issue with Egypt Direct or Ahmed.. Most of the ships are old and lack of tourists/currency issues/competition means that there isn't enough money to renovate the ships frequently.. There isn't much information available on the ships etc.. If you have taken US cruise, be sure to lower your expectations... The categories of the ships don't mean anything.. We were on M/S Suntimes which is a grand deluxe category but in reality it's just like 3 star motel room that you will see here in US. If I would have known, I would paid more to get a better ship. This does not mean that the Nile Cruise was not awesome .. it was but my choice would have been to pay more to get a better ship. 4) Edfu. All the Nile Cruises land in Edfu at the same time and it's a zoo .. Hundreds of tourists everywhere.. and everyone have 2 hours to get through the tour.. On top of that..we had to travel via horse carriage and that was a challenge with so many tourists.. 5) Tips.. Be sure to carry lots of dollar or other smaller bills for tips.. Everyone expects tips .. I would have preferred to tip in EGP but amazingly.. no one has change over there.. 6) Business side of Egypt Sites: I was in Egypt 11 years back and every trip was all inclusive .. Now everything costs money.. and a whole lot of it.. Entry fees have gone uo 10 fold.. Valley of the king tickets now only allow you to visit only 3 toms .. King Tut Tom costs 250 EGP per person extra.. KV1 site is a whopping 1000 EGP per person extra.. Be sure to carry enough EGPs on you as official entry fees or camera fees etc. all have to be paid in EGP only.. No foreign currency or credit cards etc.. I couldn't believe that official places do not accept credit cards.. Above is nothing specific for Ahmed and Egypt Direct Tours. It's just the reality on the ground.. Our trip overall was nothing short of amazing especially because Ahmed, Maha, Mahmoud.. People were great and overall we had fantastic experience and we walked away with wonderful memories. I would recommend Ahemd and Egypt Direct Tours to everyone and anyone.. (I have already done so for few people already since I got back a week back).. If you haven't been to Egypt .. Go.. it's an amazing place to be.. If you are going, go with Ahmed and Egypt Direct Tours.. You will not regret it at all.. All I can say is Fantastic.. Awesome. and Thank You!!!

Travel Nile Valley your way
You've got options for your Nile journey - from fancy Dahabiya boats to simple Felucca sailboats, each with its own character. Most people go for the 4-5 day cruises between Luxor and Aswan, stopping at Edfu, Kom Ombo and other riverside temples. The Dahabiya boats are quite special with private cabins and proper Egyptian meals from the onboard chef. They can dock at smaller spots that big cruise ships can't reach. Our customers really like the small group feel - just 12-14 guests max - and how flexible the schedule is for catching sites at the best times. For something more hands-on, try a Felucca where you'll help sail the boat, eat simple meals on deck and sleep under amazing desert stars. Lots of tours add some beach time in Hurghada afterwards to relax by the Red Sea.
Egypt offers plenty of ways to mix history with outdoor activities. You can ride camels by the pyramids at sunrise, snorkel among Red Sea coral reefs near Hurghada and sail traditional boats on the Nile. Many of our travelers say the hot air balloon rides over Luxor's west bank are a highlight - you drift above ancient temples as the morning sun lights up the desert. Some tours take you to Nubian villages by small boat where you can swim in the Nile and learn about local life. The combination tours running 8-12 days give you enough time for both the historical sites and active parts. Our customers often mention how nice it is to have free time in Hurghada for swimming and water sports after seeing all the historical sites.
Explore a wide diversity of coach / bus tours through Nile Valley. We have 12 adventures that vary from 3 days to 12 days. With the greatest number of departures in April, this is also the most popular time of the year.
Traditional felucca sailing on the Nile lets you travel like locals have for centuries. You'll sleep right on deck under the stars while the crew takes care of navigation and fresh meals. Our travelers tell us they love jumping in for swims during calm stretches and the social vibe on board. If you prefer more comfort, Dahabiya boats come with private cabins, attached bathrooms and really good Egyptian food prepared by the chef. These smaller boats can dock at quiet spots away from the big cruise ships, so you get temples almost to yourself. Our customers particularly like having dinner on small islands as the sun sets over the river. Felucca trips run 5 days and work well if you're watching your budget, while Dahabiya journeys take 7-13 days and give you that full river experience with extra comfort.

Best tour companies for Nile Valley tours
Our travelers consistently give high marks to three tour companies in Egypt: Timeless Tours, Expat Egypt and also Vacations to Go Travel. Peter from Timeless Tours gets mentioned often in feedback for really knowing his stuff and going the extra mile to take care of people. If you're traveling solo - especially as a woman - Beyond the Nile tours has built up a solid reputation for creating a secure, welcoming environment. Just keep in mind that some of the budget-friendly options don't include all entrance fees and tips in the upfront price, so it's worth checking what extra costs you might need to budget for. The experiences in Egypt tend to stick with people long after they return home. Our customers particularly love drifting down the Nile on a traditional felucca boat, floating over Luxor's ancient temples in hot air balloons at sunrise and exploring the royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings. The guides do a great job bringing Egypt's history to life while making sure everyone stays comfortable and taken care of during their trip. The key seems to be the quality of the guides - they're knowledgeable without being overly academic, friendly without being pushy and really good at handling all the practical details that make a trip run smoothly. We get lots of feedback about how they help travelers navigate local customs, know the best photo spots and even recommend reliable places for everything from snacks to souvenirs.

How much should I set aside for entrance fees and tips?
Tipping (or baksheesh) is really important in Egypt so you'll want to budget generously for that. Most temples cost between 100-200 Egyptian Pounds to enter though some special sites like King Tut's tomb are a bit more at 250 EGP. You'll need small change for things like restrooms and various services throughout your trip. Our travelers usually recommend having about 100 EGP per day just for tips and keeping smaller bills handy makes everything easier.
