Great guides, excellent way to get to know a different side of Cambodia and Vietnam. Good quality bikes, meeting the NGO’s Ali g the way was incredibly impactful. Would definitely do it again.

4 minutes ago Our 12 day tour from Phnom Penh to Saigon was an absolutely amazing trip. Our international group all gelled, we made new friends and we had a great time seeing the real countryside at bike pace rather than just whizzing through it in a bus. I wore my hand out waving to all the happy locals and went hoarse shouting hi in return. Both Cambodia and Vietnam are absolutely stunning countries recovering from a difficult recent past; everyone there is so happy seemingly living a very simple life which is a great lesson. All the tour guides were absolutely brilliant and freely shared their knowledge of the countries; I only wish there were bananas, pineapple, water, an ice bucket and sugar cane juice every 90 minutes on my rides in the UK. The itinerary was well structured including rest days to allow recovery from the days cycling in the heat. The insight into the NGO operations via their talks was sobering and it was rewarding to be able to give something back in the donation debate at the end in Saigon. I would definitely do a trip with them again.

The tour was a brilliant experience. We loved getting off the beaten track and can't think of a better way of experiencing Cambodia and Vietnam for the first time. The tour was very well organised and the guides and support staff were exceptional. It was a nice mixture of cycling, visiting NGOs, other activities and free time. We had really good fun, met some great people.and got fit at the same time.

There is no better way to experience a country, see and meet with locals, and learn about the challenges faced by disadvantaged people and the grassroots NGOs committed to help those who want to change their life opportunities.

Being a bike guide myself, it was very interesting to be on the "other side" for the first time. I loved the experience. Brett is an awesome person, relaxed but on top of things, and to me what made the trip so special was the social side of it - we visited and learned a lot about several NGO's that are really making the difference in Cambodia and Vietnam. Will ride again with Social Cycles, for sure!

My wife and I completed Brett's Cambodia to Vietnam tour on February 13. I have traveled over much of the world and have had more than a few adventures. This one was excellent in all respects. Brett has a laid back approach but a remarkable attention to detail. The trip went off without a hitch. The tour was amazing and very satisfying. We toured a number of farms and organizations that are doing good for the local people. Very inspiring. Before the trip, my wife and I were concerned that we would not be able to keep up with the bicycling. We are healthy, but not especially fit, and we are a bit older; I am 68 and my wife is 57. It turned out that our worries were misplaced. The cycling was challenging but far from overwhelming and we did just fine. As others have mentioned, this is not a good tour for people looking for five star accommodations. Lodging was clean and comfortable but occasionally a little basic and food was always good. My goal now is to try to convince one of my grown children or one or two of my more adventurous friends to take one of Brett's tours. I know they would not be disappointed.

Our ride with Brett from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City was one of the most memorable trips I have ever done. It was the perfect balance of physical challenge and authentic exposure to the off road realities in Cambodia and Vietnam. We have cycled in many countries but nothing even vaguely compares with this experience. I was particularly moved by our guide Brett’s commitment to showing us the roads less travelled in these countries and his gentle and non-intrusive encouragement of all of us to see these places as he sees them and to follow him on this physical and social journey while carefully attending to our safety. A real odyssey on so many levels. We are still baking in the afterglow.

I've been fortunate enough to join Brett on two trips with Social Cycles now, met some awesome like minded people and had some great laughs As you would expect, the accommodation is not 5 star but clean, comfortable and compĺemented with friendly staff. The Reid mountain bicycles are comfortable, well maintained and fit for purpose, the cycling legs each day, although challenging, are achievable with some training. If you want a cycling adventure holiday with purpose via the road less travelled, visiting and learing from local NGOs, with great people and great food.....this is it Brett and his support team are very well organised, professional and great fun to tour with Looking forward to my next trip with Social Cycles. This trip was beyond my expectations - Brett was an supportive, well-educated guide whose support personnel (guides, mechanics, drivers, hotels, tours, etc.) were incredibly well organized, going off without a hitch at each location and when we crossed countries from Cambodia to Vietnam. I sustained an injury during the trip and was whisked off to an extremely clean, modern emergency room to be checked to ensure the injury was minimal (which, indeed it was!) This is not a trip for those expecting 5 star accommodations and food. This is for the adventurous and those who want to be truly immersed in the local culture, food, customs and social issues. I was impressed by the ingenuity of the NGOs that we visited and how fellow country folk help each other as one large family, caring for each other to ensure education, food, medical care - the basics for living - are being met. On a regular tour, I would never had the opportunity to meet these amazing folks and understand the needs/resourcefulness that exists within these countries. Brett's commitment to socially responsible travel shines through out this trip, thus making the experience unforgettable and life changing. Our small group of 12 cyclists bonded and watched out for each other, thus adding to why this is one of the best trips I have ever experienced. Now - be warned - the weather is not for the feint of heart. I come from a very dry climate so I purposely chose the "dry season" to visit Vietnam and Cambodia, but the 88+ degree days with 80%+ humidity was very taxing for me. Although my legs didn't fatigue with the cycling speed/distances, even with using electrolytes, fruit and plenty of liquid to sustain me while cycling, to my surprise, the heat did me in, forcing me to rest out a leg every so often during the trip. I didn't expect that type of reaction and no amount of training could have prepared me for my physical reaction to the heat. But - I didn't let that stop me - I still participated to the extent of my comfort level and retreated to the bus when necessary to recuperate. There were times that the off-road cycling took me beyond my comfort zone, yet because the group support was so strong, I made it through and am a better person for it! I felt I got my full money's worth and MORE with this trip. For those with a spirit of adventure in your heart - don't hesitate to participate in one of Brett's trips. You will be changed in your view of yourself and how you see the world. It was one of the best, if not THE BEST travel experience I was able to take! Thank you so much Brett - you are an amazing host and person who shared your love of people and their cultures with us! It was truly a life-changing experience for me.

Please can you let me know the level of fitness required for this trip? What does "in Twin' mean? I am travelling alone so would there be a supplement?

    Group size
    Single supplement
    Tour Details
    • Social CyclesOperatorWritten February 2025

We would consider the level of fitness for this ride to be quite basic. There is a support van for the entire duration of the ride so you can take a break whenever you feel the need. The other thing about this ride is that it is completely flat. We move at approximately 15-20kmh with lots of stops along the way. The twin room means that we will match you with a fellow solo traveller of the same sex. If you want your own room, we can arrange it with an additional fee. If we can't match you with a similar traveller, then you don't need to pay it.

    Asked on January 23rd, 2023

What age ranges are there, I would be 62 and although I love young people I don't want to feel out of place and less fit if it's not a mixed age group. With regard to fitness I'm reasonably fit for the flat cycling, maybe need to get more saddle fit but what length are the daily rides and how many hours in the saddle? What's the set up for a single person - do you get your own room? Is there a hefty single supplement?

    Age Range
    Group size
    Single supplement
    Transport
    • Social CyclesOperatorWritten January 2023

Re group mix. Generally speaking, your age would be about our average. Most of our riders have adult children, so think 50-75. Occasionally we have people in their mid 20's but not often. And even more occasionally, families with teenage children. Re fitness. We take lots of breaks and the cycling is not a fast pace. There is a support van for the entire duration of cycling that is close by, if not directly behind you. Re single room. We can guarantee a single room with a supplement of AU$500. All rooms are air-conditioned, with private bathroom and are based on 3 and 4 star hotels.

    Asked on October 27th, 2022

Will you transfer the luggage via van?

    Transport
    • Social CyclesOperatorWritten October 2022

Yes, we transfer the luggage. The support van also closely follows you along the route, so if you fancy a break, you can tap out and enjoy the air conditioning of the van. We have sold out for January 9, however, we have introduced a new departure date for January 15th. We also have rides running from Siem Reap from January 11th.

    Bonnie

    Asked on May 28th, 2022

Do you have an ebike hire option please? If so, how much? If not, what is your typical cruising speed and daily distance?

    Transport
    • Social CyclesOperatorWritten May 2022

We haven't used E bikes before on our rides, but we might be able to source one locally. I believe the cost is about US$30 per day. The rides are fully supported with a van and riders are free to jump in at any point. The cruising speed is about 15-18km/ph. We encourage riders to stop and take photos along the way. It's not a race, but very much a journey. We've had people of all ages come on our rides, including shine on their 80's. Daily distances are from 40-80km.

A couple of other queries please: How much is the single supplement? What numbers do you have so far for your 18/7 and 22/8 departures? Can i bring my own saddle and mirror?

    • Social CyclesOperatorWritten June 2022

The single supplement is $350. July is guaranteed to Friday with six people booked in. I don't have anybody for August as yet. Not all six people are going all the way to Vietnam though. You're more than welcome to bring your own saddle and pedals etc. We'll for them for you.
