Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Bhaktapur

Start your day at Changu Narayan temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site that sits in the Bhaktapur district. This temple goes back to the Lichhavis period when King Mandev built it to honor Lord Vishnu. The location offers views across the valley, and you'll walk through the temple grounds to see the carved wooden details and stone work that make this place historically significant. Plan to spend a couple hours here exploring the different sections and taking in the architecture.

  2. Day 1

    Bhaktapur

Head into Bhaktapur Durbar Square where you'll find the Royal Residential Quarter that belonged to Bhupatindra Malla. The square itself is filled with temples, and you'll come across the five-storied Nyatapola temple along with the Batsala temple nearby. From there, work your way to the Palace of 55 windows, which shows off detailed wood carving on its exterior. The whole area is walkable, so you can move between sites at your own pace and spend time photographing the architectural details.

    • Visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square
    • Explore Nyatapola temple
    • Visit Batsala temple
    • Visit Bhairavnath temple

  3. Day 1

    Kathmandu Valley

Travel to the Buddhist stupa in the Kathmandu Valley, a 5th-century structure that features four pairs of eyes painted on its main dome, each pair facing a cardinal direction. These eyes represent Lord Buddha's gaze over the four directions. During your visit, you'll likely see Tibetan pilgrims walking clockwise around the stupa and using prayer wheels. Spend time walking the circuit yourself and observing the devotional practices that happen throughout the day.

  4. Day 1

    Kathmandu

Make your way to Pashupatinath, which sits about 5 km east of the city center and functions as one of the most sacred Hindu shrines. The main pagoda is heavily decorated with wood and metal work, and inside you'll find the sacred Linga representing Lord Shiva. The site draws Hindu pilgrims from across the world, so you'll see people performing rituals and making offerings. The riverside setting adds to the spiritual atmosphere, and it's worth taking time to observe the various activities happening throughout the grounds.

Honestly I was a bit sceptical given all the glowing reviews and all the fake reviews that seem to be out there these days, but ACE were truely fantastic. I arrived in Nepal just after the riots during the final day of lockdown and it was very calm and peaceful. Everyone was very happy to see tourists and the place was very clean. I was supposed to do the Everest Base Camp trek but bad weather cancelled all flights including helicpoters to Lukla, so our group decided to do ABC instead. Throughout the process both Sujan in the office and our guide Ram were very professional and made sure we understood all the options. They picked me up from the airport even though I arrived early and was staying at a different hotel, and then picked me up again to transfer me to the group trek hotel. What I really liked about ACE, and the main reasons I chose them was that they are a local company with extremely experienced guides (15+ years), but also they actually include things that many of the other big operators like Intrepid and G do not, like nearly all meals, as much filtered water as we wanted as well as hot drinks. This to me made a huge difference overall. The food was also varied and actually very good at all the teahouses. It certainly wasnt Dal Bhat every meal. It was at times even too much food. I think I actually put on weight during the trek. The porters were also always friendly and smiling, helping out with food and filtered water. The trek itself was more geueling than I anticipated with a lot of stairs and a lot of up and down compared to Everest, but we had clear days and excellent mountain views at the top. Seriously, if you are looking for value for money and a professional local operator you will not go wrong choosing ACE.

Once in a lifetime experience! Went in April and the weather was sunny with temperatures dropping as we got higher. The organisation right from the start was excellent. Everything worked like clockwork throughout. The pre-trek briefing prepared us for the trip and the Kathmandu hotel was first class. The Porters actually did the hard work and seemed to make it look easy! For me though the guy who really made it an extraordinary adventure was our Guide: Milan. Nothing was too much trouble, he coaxed and cajoled us when the going was tougher and set a pace that meant that we all made Base Camp. Absolutely one of the nice guys! Fab company and fab crew!

Guide Pasang Dawa Sherpa - An Amazing Man! By: Larry C In completing the challenging trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp in October 2022 with Ace the Himalaya, we were so blessed to have Pasang Dawa Sherpa as our guide! Pasang was absolutely amazing! He not only led us every step of the way, but he was always so positive and encouraging. Pasang literally guided us from our hotel in Katmandu, riding with us on the long, winding road to Manthali for the flight to Lukla, then following our trek to Everest Base Camp, and Mt. Kalapathar, he remained with us all the way back to Kathmandu. The following day, we met with him for a celebratory dinner, and he presented us with special certificates for completing the trek successfully. During the trek, Pasang took care of all arrangements, even helping serve our meals and making sure we all remained healthy and acclimatized to the high altitude trekking. Pasang is such a friendly, humble man, but he always took charge of everything, and every village we came to he was so well known and respected by everyone. Pasang had a great sense of humor and an unlimited knowledge of the mountains, the cultures, the religions, and the history of the Khumbu Region we were hiking through. He was such a great guide in every way, and I would feel so privileged to follow his lead again when I make my next trip to Nepal. Larry Compton
