Itinerary
- Day 1
Strasbourg to Obernai
You'll arrive in Strasbourg and take a 30-minute train to Obernai, a charming town situated along the Wine Route. Before heading to your hotel, there's time to walk through Petite France, check out the Ponts Couverts, and see the German District if you're not too tired from travel. Later in the evening, you'll get a phone orientation from your hotel in Obernai to help you settle in.

Obernai to Barr
Your first hiking day starts right from the hotel heading toward Mont Saint Odile, then continues on to Barr covering about 17km through forested trails with some elevation. You can grab lunch at the summit of Mont St Odile, and after that it's a nice descent into Barr. By the time you reach the town, you'll be surrounded by wine country and can try some local wines to celebrate finishing your first day.

Barr to Itterwiller
Today you'll hike through vineyard country and Foret d'Andlau, passing through the wine town of Bernardville before reaching Itterwiller. There are two options available: a shorter route taking about 3.5 hours with 10.3km and 397m of elevation gain, or a longer route at 4.5 hours covering 13.7km with 721m of elevation gain. Before dinner, you'll have a wine tasting organized to sample some of the area's best local wines.

Itterwiller to Ribeauville
A taxi will pick you up at 9am to take you to the Chateau of Haut Koenigsbourg, which sits high on a hill with great views over the Alsatian plain. From there, you'll hike back down to Ribeauville using the GR5 path through Forest de Ribeauville. Ribeauville itself has historical significance as the former home of the Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre, the Lords of Ribeaupierre, so there's plenty of character to the town when you arrive.

Ribeauville to Kaysersberg
The morning takes you hiking through vineyards toward Ricquewihr, a medieval town right in the heart of wine country where you'll stop for lunch. The town has nice architecture and lots of heritage to explore. After lunch, you'll continue walking through the forest in the afternoon, passing some chateau remains before reaching Kaysersberg. You'll have dinner on your own this evening, so you can choose where to eat.

Kaysersberg to Colmar
You'll hike to Turkheim first, known for its Gewurztraminer wines and traditional Alsatian food, then continue walking to Colmar, one of the region's most charming villages. There are several museums worth your time including Unterlinden, Bartholdi, and du Jouet, plus the historic old town has real character. Petite Venise is a quarter you shouldn't miss, with well-preserved Alsatian homes, a small harbor, and pedestrianized streets that are great for wandering.

Colmar
After breakfast, it's time to head out. Trains to Paris and Strasbourg both leave from Colmar. If you want to extend your trip, you can arrange extra nights in either Colmar or Strasbourg before heading home.
