Trip Code: AHBS Best of Southern India I want to share a deeply distressing experience I had during the cycle rickshaw ride included in this tour. I was sexually harassed by the driver. Throughout the ride, the driver repeatedly touched me without my consent, leaving me feeling violated and unsafe. He asked to take a photo and then leaned his head against my breast. Later, while walking back from the banana market, he kept his arm around my waist despite my discomfort. At one point, as we approached a bridge and other passengers disembarked to walk, he picked me up and carried me without asking. I tried to move away, but the crowded, chaotic streets made it difficult to act freely. Our tour guide/CEO was at the back of the rickshaw line, out of sight, so I couldn’t alert him during the incident. After the ride, the driver persistently demanded a tip. That evening, I informed our tour guide/CEO about what had happened. He offered to accompany me to the police station, but I was emotionally overwhelmed and needed time to process the trauma without having to relive it immediately—especially in a context where concerns about women’s safety are already so prevalent. It’s taken me time to feel ready to speak up. I don’t recall the driver’s name, but I have included a photo of him. I’m sharing this not just for myself, but in the hope that no one else—regardless of gender or background—has to endure what I did.

The tour was consistent with what I expect from G Adventures. Well organized tour, excellent guide, friendly, well seasoned travelers in the group. A little heavy on getting from point a to b, i.e. sitting in a bus or train. As to why I would perhaps recommend dropping one location such as up in the mountains on day 1 to allow for more time elsewhere, preferably cities which is what appeals to me.
