Itinerary
- Day 1
Georgetown to Iwokrama River Lodge
You'll head out early from Georgetown with a choice of how to travel. Either take an 8-hour 4x4 drive cutting through rainforest or opt for a quicker 1-hour flight if you prefer. Once you arrive, settle in and grab lunch before hitting the wildlife trails with a guide who'll point out birds and forest plants along the way. After dinner back at your base, you'll head out on the Essequibo River after dark to look for Black Caimans and other nocturnal animals moving through the water.

Iwokrama River Lodge - Turtle Mountain and Kurupucari Falls
Following breakfast, take a 30-minute boat ride to reach Turtle Mountain. The hike up to the 290m summit takes about 1 to 1.5 hours and is moderately challenging, though the payoff is worth it with views across the rainforest and river below. You'll likely spot monkeys as you make your way up. Head back down for lunch at the lodge, then travel to Kurupucari Falls where you can see ancient Amerindian petroglyphs carved into rock faces over 6,000 years ago. Finish the day with a relaxed dinner at the lodge overlooking the Essequibo.

Iwokrama Forest - Indian House Island and Canopy Walkway
Start before dawn with an early boat trip around Indian House Island to catch butterflies, snakes, and macaws while listening to forest birds singing. After breakfast, drive south-west along the Iwokrama Road to reach Atta Rainforest Lodge. The main event is walking the 154-metre Iwokrama Canopy Walkway with suspension bridges that climb up to 30 metres high, giving you a view of the mid-level jungle canopy and the wildlife living there. By evening, you can head back to Georgetown or choose to stay overnight at Atta Rainforest Camp if you want more time in the forest.
