Because the tour was for both Spanish and English speakers, each group had to wait for translations... especially the English-speaking group because the Spanish guide was much, much wordier. It became annoying.that people were laughing as he was speaking Spanish and none of that translated to us.... Okay, and then just as we were bonding with our group, there was an additional group added. That was distracting. We have been on other tours and it is important to create cohesiveness. On day 6, yet another group was added and others in our group went elsewhere. Very hard to start over with other people. My husband began feeling sick on Day 6 of the 8 day tour and got progressively worse. He was feverish but no one suggested that his temperature be taken. If I had known how high it was--104 F, I might have chosen to get him to a hospital. He also was having problems walking--why didn't the guide tell me to get him to a hospital.I was told I had to have my insurance lined up and I tried in vain to contact the TourRadar Emergency number because there was NONE!!!! We had paid for the travel insurance and we were unable to use it for the 7 days my husband was in the Japanese hospitals. Our guide said that Europamundo had some insurance and we would like to have some recompence for the out of pocket money we had to pay to the 2 hospitals where he was treated.

Transport, accommodation, itinerary were good (although perhaps a few too many temples, much military history but little cultural - ie, art, craft, musical - history). When I booked with TourRadar I didn't know of its close affiliation with Europamundo with its target clientele being people from Spanish-speaking countries. While the three guides were efficient and enthusiastic the emphasis of the commentary was on Spanish with rather simplistic English to follow. If TourRadar and Europamundo wish to attract - and keep - English-speaking visitors I feel there is a need for better commentary in English. Also, I hadn't realised that it was not one continuous tour but a composite of people coming and going in different directions. This meant it was difficult to strike up holiday friendships. In spite of this I enjoyed the tour, the highlight being the stop in Nagano where we spent two weeks during the 1998 Olympic Winter Games. Two of our guides - José and Paco - were very experienced. David Solanes, it seemed was quite new to the job. However David invested much enthusiasm and energy into the job, entertaining bus passengers on the longer road stretches and providing interesting insights into both Japanese and Spanish culture.
