You'll start by traveling through Castile and the Basque Country, eventually arriving in San Sebastián. Spend time walking along La Concha Beach and try some local wine in the old town before heading into France. By late afternoon, you'll reach Bordeaux and it's worth taking a walk around the city to get oriented.

Bordeaux - Lourdes

By late afternoon, you'll arrive in Marseille and take a walk through the Old Port, where waterfront restaurants line the area.

- Day 4
Marseille - Arles - Avignon - Lyon
You'll visit several Provence highlights starting with Arles, a UNESCO World Heritage city with Roman and medieval heritage plus connections to Van Gogh. Next comes the medieval village of Les Baux and the Carrières de Lumières underground art show. After lunch, head to Avignon to stroll past the massive Palais des Papes, then finish in Lyon exploring the World Heritage old town and taking a cable car up to Notre-Dame de Fourvière basilica.

Heading to Burgundy, you'll stop in Tournus to see its stone gate and large abbey. Continue to Beaune, Burgundy's wine capital, where you'll have lunch and time to explore. Savigny Castle is next with its 15th-century fortress and museums featuring motorbikes, racing cars, planes, and helicopters. End in Dijon, where medieval and Renaissance streets and the Palace of the Dukes are worth seeing.

- Day 7
Strasbourg - Freiburg im Breisgau - Triberg - Gengenbach - Baden-Baden
You'll start in Strasbourg by walking through the medieval old town and checking out the Gothic cathedral up close. After that, you're heading out on a boat trip through the canals of Petite France, which winds through the area nicely. Later you'll cross into Germany's Black Forest region and stop in Freiburg for lunch, then take a walk around this university city. From there, it's on to Triberg to see Germany's highest waterfalls. You'll pause in Gengenbach for photos before settling into Baden-Baden for the night (about 75°F/24°C depending on the season).

This morning you'll leave Baden-Baden with a stroll through its elegant parks, then continue to Speyer where you'll visit the UNESCO-listed Romanesque cathedral and walk through the old town. After that, you're heading to Heidelberg to take the funicular up to the castle and explore the exterior grounds, wine cellars, and pharmacy museum. Lunch happens in the historic old town here, and you'll have time to wander around before arriving in Frankfurt. You'll have free time to check out Römerberg Square and grab dinner before heading to your hotel.
