Itinerary
- Day 1
Keflavik
You'll land at Keflavik International Airport in the afternoon and pick up your rental car. From there it's a drive across the Reykjanes Peninsula, passing through Reykjavik and over the Hellisheidi highland pass to reach southwest Iceland, where you're staying for the next three nights.
- Day 2
Golden Circle
This day takes you along the Golden Circle route. Start at Þingvellir National Park to learn about Iceland's history and see the tectonic fissure. Then move to the geothermal Geysir area and watch Strokkur erupt every few minutes. After that, head to Gullfoss waterfall where rainbows often span the canyon. Other activities fill out the rest of your day.

- Day 3
Southwest Iceland
You'll explore the lesser-known side of agricultural southwest Iceland beyond the typical routes. Optional stops include the Stöng excavation site with views down into the 122-meter Háifoss waterfall canyon, or head south to check out the Westman Islands and highlights along the south coast.

West Iceland
Leave the southwest region and drive past Þingvallavatn lake toward the 30 km long Hvalfjardur fjord. At the fjord's end, there's an option to take a three-hour hike up to Glymur, Iceland's second highest waterfall, which drops nearly 200 meters into a narrow gorge.

Snaefellsnes Peninsula
Take a day trip to Snæfellsnes Peninsula, called 'Little Iceland' because it has all the island's different features in one place. You'll see the legendary Snæfellsjökull glacier volcano in the distance (weather permitting), walk the black Djupalonssandur beach with old ship remnants, and check out Kirkjufell mountain on the north side. Staying overnight there is an option.

Reykholtsdalur - Hraunfossar - Husafell
Head to Reykholtsdalur valley and continue toward the highland edge. Visit the Deildartunguhver geothermal area near Reykholt, which feeds the Krauma spa. Moving inland, you'll see the striking Hraunfossar 'lava waterfalls' with their ice-blue glacier waters. The birch forest at Húsafell has colorful surroundings worth exploring, and there's an optional off-road excursion to the Surtshellir cave.

Reykjavik
Drive back toward Reykjavik and spend time in the capital exploring its colorful houses, visiting one of many museums, or strolling by the city lake. You can relax in Sky Lagoon's warm waters or head to the Reykjanes Peninsula instead. Before you leave, consider visiting Fagradalsfjall, the volcanic area that's been active since 2021.
