- Day 1
Paestum
You'll arrive at Paestum train station and get transported to your hotel near the Greek temples. Your bikes are waiting if you want to ride over, or the hotel staff can bring your luggage while you cycle. If you get there early, there's time to walk through the archaeological site before checking in. Dinner features local regional dishes at the hotel.

Paestum
This morning you'll cycle through Paestum's ancient Greek city area, seeing the three temples, amphitheater, heroon, and Greek and Roman houses. The museum has everything from prehistoric tools to that famous 'Tomba del Tuffatore' (Tomb of the Diver). After lunch at a local buffalo farm where you can try fresh buffalo mozzarella, you'll cycle back through the Sele river plain, with chances to swing through Giugnano or Cicerale if you want. Dinner's back at the hotel.

Paestum to San Marco di Castellabate
Today you're cycling from the Paestum plain into Cilento, pedaling through Mediterranean brush and olive groves toward the coastal hills above Agropoli. You'll pass medieval villages and reach the charming San Marco di Castellabate on the coast. From there, head to Prignano and Torchiara on the green slopes, visiting the 16th-century Palazzo Vargas. Later you descend toward Santa Maria di Castellabate with views of Tresino peninsula. Back in San Marco for the night, you can either cycle or walk to the Punta Licosa marine reserve at the bay of Leucosia, or just relax with a drink before dinner.

San Marco di Castellabate
Starting with a challenging climb to the medieval town of Castellabate, you'll tour the old fortress and take in views of both San Marco and Santa Maria below. Continue climbing toward Perdifumo and Mercato Cilento for a circular route around Monte Stella with panoramic views of the Amalfi Coast and Capri (Sicily's visible on clear days). You'll grab coffee in one of the villages and cycle through chestnut forests. The route back to San Marco gives you choices, and by evening you can take a swim and then have dinner at a harbor or town restaurant.

San Marco di Castellabate to Pisciotta
You'll cycle south along the coastal road toward the Alento river plain, climbing through Mediterranean brush and pine forest to reach the 'Ripe Rosse' red rocks. From there, drop down to Acciaroli, the fishing village where Hemingway stayed in 1952 and got ideas for 'The Old Man and the Sea'. Next comes Pioppi with its Sea Life Museum (this place was home to Ancel Keys, who developed the Mediterranean diet concept). Continue across the Alento plain to check out Velia, that ancient Greco-Roman city where philosophers Zenon and Parmenides lived. Then climb up to Ascea in the hills before descending to Pisciotta, one of the best-preserved medieval villages here.

Pisciotta
Today's a circular tour through the quiet, less-touristy landscape between Ceraso, Pisciotta, and Ascea. You're cycling on peaceful roads where you won't see many visitors. From Pisciotta, head north back to Ascea and down to Velia to see 'Porta Rosa', the harbor, ancient baths, and the medieval bastion. Continue inland to Ceraso with its traditional palazzi, then ride through shaded oak and chestnut forests to Santa Barbara, Mandia, and Rodio high above the coast. Descend through olive groves with panoramic views of Monte Stella and Capo Palinuro. You can take a short detour to Marina di Pisciotta or head straight back to Pisciotta for an aperitif in town.

Pisciotta to Marina di Camerota
This is an easier cycling day along the panoramic southern Cilento coast. Start with gentle downhill sections toward Cape Palinuro, named after Aeneas's helmsman, with its dramatic cliffs and sea caves including the 'Grotta Azzurra'. You can loop over the cape and visit the small port for a boat tour around the caves, or just relax on the beach. Later, continue east to Marina di Camerota, a pretty coastal town where you'll stay the night. Fish restaurants here serve great Mediterranean dinners.

Marina di Camerota
Start with an easy coastal stretch, then tackle a steep but scenic climb to San Giovanni a Piro, passing through Lentiscosa with unique views of the 'Costa degli Infreschi', one of Italy's most pristine coastlines. You'll reach San Giovanni a Piro with spectacular views over the Gulf of Policastro and surrounding mountains. Lunch can be a picnic or meal at a local spot. From there, tour around Monte Bulgheria through Bosco and Acquavena beneath limestone cliffs. Reach the Mingardo river valley with a possible detour to Roccagloriosa on its rocky hilltop. Cycle downhill through the Mingardo gorge past the abandoned medieval San Severino village, return to the coast, then follow the coastal road back to your hotel. If you're feeling sporty, climb to Lentiscosa and cycle through Camerota's fortress and medieval old town.
