    · April 1st, 2025
A very well-organised trip. Great way to see Sri Lanka with people waving and saying hello to you when you cycle past their house. We were very well looked after by the cycling crew. Water was always topped up and we had a constant supply of snacks (mostly sugary, some fruits). Requires a reasonable level of fitness but most people in my group (some in their 70s) cycled all the way. There was one downhill day with potholes that most people disliked. Guide could have been more experienced but overall I would recommend.

I really enjoyed the Cycle Sri Lanka tour with Intrepid - I found it to be a good balance of sightseeing, seeing local life + wildlife and exercise across mostly SW and Central Sri Lanka. We packed a lot of places into 13 days. Sri Lanka has a rich biodiversity (unexpected), cultural history and people are very friendly and welcoming - a great break away from London city life. Food is also amazing. Our guide, Dodangoda, is knowledgeable - sharing this with us in a timely manner, took into account each of our wants and ensured this was delivered against, passionate about his job, professional and did all he could to ensure we could experience the 'real' Sri Lanka in such a short period of time - he is also a food lover like me which worked out great as we sampled many of the more local eateries and snacks to the delight of the entire group. We also had a great driver in Heroshan and a good level of support from the cycle team. The cycling itself is planned out in such a way that you build up a good level of cycle fitness before the more challenging stints - challenging due to length, altitude gained and climate. I do not cycle at home but do have a good general level of fitness and did a couple of weeks preparation on a bike before the tour - I found the level of difficulty fine in the most with one or two of the days more challenging but in a good way and accomplishable. Hence, it was the perfect balance for me :) Visiting Sri Lanka primary and cycling secondary. The miss from this trip for me was seeing Ella and then some of the more eastern and less well travelled regions however it would have been difficult to fit this into the 13 days.

Sam was an amazing tour leader; he operated his crew and the trip so that the travellers got the best experience of Sri Lanka. Sam was very thoughtful in that he created 'moments' for everyone - whether that be by giving you a lotus to offer at each temple, having an ice cream ready after a hot walking tour in the sun, or organising the riding tour so that he literally stopped traffic for us to ride through town.
