- Day 2
Funchal
Start with a cable car ride up to Monte for views over the city and ocean. The Monte Palace Tropical Garden is next, and it's one of the world's most beautiful botanical spaces. You'll try the famous Monte toboggan ride where locals steer the traditional wicker sled downhill. After that, head to the Farmers' Market to see local produce and crafts, then try traditional drinks like Poncha or Nikita.

You're hiking Ponta de São Lourenço peninsula on the eastern coast with dramatic coastal views throughout. Later you'll relax at Prainha do Caniçal, the island's only natural sandy beach with black volcanic sand. The 18th-century Fortress of Faial comes next with its English cannons, then you'll see Santana's traditional thatched houses and walk your first levada trail through the area.

Palheiro Golf sits nearly 500m up with mountain and ocean views from every angle. You'll hike through the Rabaçal levada area seeing the Levada do Risco waterfall and 25 Fontes cascades. Cascata dos Anjos waterfall is next, then you'll check out Ponta do Sol's sheltered beach. Dinner at Restaurante Sol Poente catches the sunset.

- Day 5
Madeira's Majestic Peaks
This is the PR1 Vereda do Areeiro hike connecting the island's three highest peaks. You start at Pico do Areeiro (1818m/5964ft), cross Pico das Torres (1851m/6073ft), and finish at Pico Ruivo (1862m/6109ft). The trail goes through tunnels with views the whole way. If that's too demanding, Miradouro do Ninho da Manta offers good photos or try the easier PR1.2 route instead.

- Day 6
Northwestern Island Charm
After yesterday's tough hike, today is much easier. You'll walk through Fanal Forest with its foggy laurel woodland and unique atmosphere for photos. Rock formations at Ribeira da Janela are worth seeing, then you'll swim in Porto Moniz's natural saltwater pools formed by volcanic rocks. Praia do Porto do Seixal has a black sand beach for relaxing, and Véu da Noiva waterfall is nearby. São Vicente has lava caves to explore if you want to check those out.

The day starts with optional canyoning through Epic Madeira, where beginners rappel down waterfalls and jump into pools. Then you'll head to the Madeira Botanical Garden to see trees, shrubs, orchids, and cacti with views back over Funchal. Your final stop is Praia Formosa, Funchal's main beach with black lava stones and sand, perfect for one last swim before you head out.
