You'll land in San Salvador and check into your hotel, then depending on when you arrive, you can head out to explore. The historic center is nearby, and Plaza Libertad or the Metropolitan Cathedral give you a nice introduction to the city's character. If you'd rather take it easy after traveling, your hotel is a fine place to settle in. For dinner, try pupusas, a local specialty, or find a rooftop restaurant with views of the city.

- Day 2
San Salvador

Later, head to Los Planes de Renderos higher up for city views, cooler air, and street food stands.

San Salvador to Playa El Tunco
After breakfast, you'll drive about 1.5 hours to Playa El Tunco on the Pacific coast. Check into your boutique resort with gardens and a pool, then spend the afternoon however you like: relax poolside or walk on the black-sand beach. By evening, grab drinks at a beachfront bar and watch the sun set over the water.

Playa El Tunco

Playa El Tunco
You have options for exploring beyond El Tunco. Take a local bus or taxi 15 minutes to Playa El Zonte for a quieter beach, or head to La Libertad to see the fish market and pier. If you want a longer trip, consider hiking to Tamanique Waterfalls and swimming in natural pools. You'll get back to the resort in late afternoon to relax and catch the sunset.

Playa El Tunco to San Pedro Sula
Leave early from Playa El Tunco and head back toward San Salvador. A driver takes you to King Quality or Tica Bus terminal (about 1.5 hours away), where you board a prestige-class international bus around 7:00-8:00 AM. The coach has wide reclining seats, air conditioning, restrooms, and complimentary snacks. The 8-9 hour trip crosses the border at El Amatillo or El Poy, where you'll briefly get off for customs on both sides. You'll reach San Pedro Sula by late afternoon or evening, then take a taxi to your hotel.

San Pedro Sula to Copán
Travel from San Pedro Sula to Copán with a knowledgeable guide. Along the way, stop at a fair trade coffee hacienda and an organic pineapple farm for tastings. Arrive in Copán Ruinas, a charming village once home to great Maya civilization. Explore the history here, and if cigars interest you, try Flor de Copán. Landmarks Roatan - Day 21
Roatan to San Pedro Sula
You'll leave Roatan and head back to San Pedro Sula. If you'd like, stop in Ceiba to relax before the trip, and a transfer is arranged for you. Otherwise, take the ferry back to the mainland from Roatan. As you travel, reflect on white sand beaches, clear water, marine life, coral reefs, and the culture and hospitality you've encountered. These memories travel with you as your tropical adventure ends.
