Itinerary
- Day 1
Arrival in Alta
You'll arrive in Alta and catch a shared transfer out to Gargia Lodge, which sits in the Gargia Valley. Once you're settled into your room, dinner happens in a traditional Sami lavvo tent where your guide walks through what causes the Northern Lights and how to spot them. If the sky cooperates, you might catch the Aurora Borealis moving across the Arctic (75°F/-25°C).

Landmarks Finnmarksvidda - Day 2
Snowmobile Safari on Finnmarksvidda
After breakfast at the lodge, you'll head out on snowmobiles following an old postal route across Europe's largest mountain plain. The route takes you through snow-covered forests and then opens up onto vast Arctic plateaus where you really feel the isolation of the region. You'll share your snowmobile with another person and swap driving duties throughout the day. Weather allowing, lunch happens outside with hot food (approximately 3-4 hours on snowmobile).

Landmarks Finnmarksvidda - Day 3
Snowshoe Hike and Dog Sled Safari
Start with snowshoes and hike to the frozen Orvvosfossen waterfall, which is about 2 km each way through quiet Arctic landscape. You'll have snacks and hot drinks there before heading back to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you'll experience the riverside sauna, which is a big part of Finnish culture. Later on, a dog sled takes you from a mountain hut out across the Finnmarksvidda plateau through the Arctic night. You and a partner share the sled and alternate who drives, then return after roughly an hour to warm up with coffee or tea while hearing stories about sledding and the region (approximately 2 hours total including travel and activity).

Departure from Alta
Eat breakfast at the lodge, then a transfer takes you to the airport for your individual flight home or to check into whatever extension you've arranged.
