Itinerary

  1. Days 1 - 2

    Arrival in Kunming

After landing in Kunming, you'll have the rest of the day to yourself. The capital of Yunnan province has a laid-back feel, so take your time wandering around the local neighborhoods and getting a sense of how people live here. Grab lunch at a small restaurant, check out the parks, or just walk through the markets at your own pace.

  2. Day 3

    Kunming

Head out early to Stone Forest, where limestone pillars shoot up from the ground like trees in a petrified landscape. This UNESCO World Heritage site takes a few hours to walk through and photograph. Back in Kunming by afternoon, try the local specialty Across the Bridge noodles for dinner. There's an optional evening show featuring Yunnan's performing arts if you're interested.

Customer Reviews

The tour was excellent. Thanks largely to Joy, our phenomenal guide. Some of the tours that were running parallel to ours weren't as fortunate. Joy was always there to provide feedback to and made adjustments to accommodate the desires of the group. A few observations that would have made the trip even better: less western meals and buffets. The set meals with authentic Japanese food were highlights of the trip. Perhaps the biggest disappointment was the meals at the Hiroshima Prince Hotel which were western in theme and poorly prepared. One of the last lunches we had was at a restaurant run by a retired Sumo wrestler. Another tour group had a demo / match with two sumo wrestlers while we were there. That would have been a great addition. Less temples and more other Japanese culture would have also been better for us - origami for example. Also, disappointing was that we didn't receive a package from Wendy Wu (possible because we were from Canada and not the UK like everyone else on the tour - luggage tags ..) The dinner cruise on the last night was another highlight. Overall very satisfied and would recommend to others.

We had a private tour organised for us by Wendy Wu Tours in Australia. The first two legs were in Hoi An and Hue, where our excellent guide Hai showed us around and gave many useful suggestions. We then flew to Hanoi, where we spent three nights. We also had a night in between in Halong Bay. We were picked up at Noi Bai Airport by Hung Do, who is an excellent, knowledgeable, informative guide. He took us on a street food tour of the Old Town which was fascinating as well as delicious. When my younger son became sick, Hung was resourceful and supportive, changing that day's tour plans so that my son and I could see the doctor. When it turned out to be COVID, Hung went out of his way to assist, even arriving early to accompany me to find and visit the Singapore Airlines office, then interpreting for us so that we could postpone our plane tickets home without penalty. He took my elder son and husband to the airport to fly home, then a week later also recommended a driver to take my younger son and I back to Noi Bai. Throughout the week he kept in touch, asking after my son's condition, and how he could help. Without Hung, our wonderful holiday could have ended on a very sour note. We feel so lucky to have met him and are extremely grateful for his fantastic service for us.
