Sarria to Portomarin
This morning you'll start your Camino journey in Sarria, walking about 22 km through rolling Galician countryside on the French Way. The trail takes you past charming hamlets like Barbadelo, where you'll see a Romanesque church, and then through Ferreiros. You'll walk between ancient stone walls with forests and green meadows on either side, eventually reaching Portomarin. The village itself was rebuilt after the Belesar reservoir was created, and the Church of San Nicolás stands as its main landmark marking the day's end.

Portomarin to continuing route
From Portomarin, you'll retrace the route for another approximately 22 km stage through the same rolling Galician landscape. You pass by Barbadelo again and its Romanesque church, then through Ferreiros where many pilgrims stop to rest. Ancient stone walls line the path as you wind through forests and meadows. The trail brings you back through Portomarin and its striking Church of San Nicolás, completing this section of your pilgrimage.

Portomarin to Palas de Rei
Today starts by crossing the Miño River as you leave Portomarin, then the path takes you through quiet countryside and dense woods on a roughly 25 km stage. You'll climb steadily through beautiful Galician landscape with stops at Gonzar and Ventas de Narón where you can rest. The historical Celtic settlement of Castromaior comes next before you reach Palas de Rei, a town with medieval roots and a relaxed atmosphere welcoming to pilgrims.

Landmarks Castromaior - Day 4
Palas de Rei to Arzúa
This is one of the longer days on the French Way at approximately 28 km from Palas de Rei. You'll walk through rolling hills, forests, and small villages, passing through Melide where you'll find pulpo a la gallega (traditional Galician octopus) if you stop for a meal. A medieval bridge crosses the River Furelos before you continue through Boente and Ribadiso, where a restored pilgrim hospital sits by the river offering a peaceful break. The day finishes in Arzúa, known for its local cheese and welcoming spirit toward pilgrims.

This serene, reflective route brings you closer to Santiago and ends in O Pedrouzo, a small town that's well-equipped with all the services you'll need.

O Pedrouzo to Santiago de Compostela
Your final stage covers approximately 20 km through quiet forests and rural landscapes to Santiago de Compostela. You'll pass villages including Amenal and Lavacolla, where medieval pilgrims traditionally washed before reaching the city. The path gradually climbs to Monte do Gozo, and from there you'll catch your first glimpse of the cathedral towers in the distance. Your journey concludes in Santiago de Compostela where the majestic Cathedral welcomes thousands of walkers each year.
