  2. Day 2

    Château de Rivau to Chinon Cycle Ride

    Your cycling starts with an easy round trip from the hotel to Chinon. The medieval town sits right on the Vienne River, and you'll check out the fortress museum to learn about Joan of Arc and Plantagenet history. Grab a leisurely lunch in the town square, then cycle back through vineyards where you can stop for wine tasting along the way.

    You'll cycle through quiet countryside alongside the Vienne River until it meets the Loire at Candes-St-Martin. These ancient river port towns have lunch spots, antique shops, and wine caves to explore. After that, it's a short ride to Fontevraud Abbey where you'll check in and spend time looking at the historical and artistic exhibitions.

    Fontevraud Abbey to Saumur

    Head west along the Loire River, passing troglodyte dwellings carved into the soft stone. You'll reach Saumur with great views of the Loire valley. During the ride, there are wine tasting opportunities, and you can visit Saumur Castle or explore an underground mushroom farm if time allows.

    Saumur to Château de Rochecotte or Domaine de la Tortinière

    From the abbey area, you'll cycle north-east, crossing back over the Loire on peaceful country roads. Join a nice cycle path along the Loire banks heading toward Château d'Ussé. Stop for lunch in the charming town of Langeais, then finish the final miles to the hotel along the northern bank.

    Today you'll cycle to two of the region's most famous castles. Start at Villandry and see its well-maintained gardens, then continue to Azay-le-Rideau with its cobbled streets, restaurants, and wine caves featuring a château set in the River Indre. From there, cycle back to your château hotel.
