Itinerary
- Day 1
Lyon
You'll arrive in Lyon and board the Scenic Sapphire, settling into your suite. Spend the afternoon checking out the ship or relaxing on the Sun Deck while taking in views across the city. Since the ship stays docked overnight, you have the option to head into town and try some of Lyon's famous restaurants and dining spots if you'd like to venture out.

Lyon
After breakfast, you'll choose from several options: walk through historic traboules and visit the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, head to the medieval walled village of Pérouge, take a silk painting workshop, or do a guided cycling tour to Tête d'Or Park. Later in the day the ship departs for Mâcon as you cruise along the Saône River.

Mâcon
You wake up in Mâcon, a nice riverside town near the south Burgundy wine region. Pick from several freechoice activities: tour the Beaujolais wine region and meet a local vintner, visit the medieval town of Cluny and its famous Benedictine Abbey, explore Château de Cormatin with its gardens, or visit an organic goat cheese farm where you'll get to try their products.

Vienne
The ship cruises downstream along the Rhône River and arrives in Vienne early this morning. You can choose between a walking tour of the well-preserved Roman theatre or a cycling tour that takes you through the city's Roman ruins, temples, and Île Barlet River Island. This 2,000-year-old city has a lot of Roman history packed into it.

Viviers
After arriving in Viviers, a medieval town that functions like an open-air museum with narrow lanes that haven't changed much over 1,600 years, you'll select from options: a guided walking tour of the Cathedral of St. Vincent and architectural highlights, a French Resistance walking tour with wartime stories, or an excursion to the provincial town of Grignan. You'll have the afternoon to cruise toward Avignon.

Avignon
In Avignon, the City of the Popes, you can walk through the fortified medieval walls and check out options like the Pope's Palace, the ancient Roman aqueduct Pont du Gard, a market shopping experience with a cooking demonstration led by the ship's chef, or wine tasting in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Your afternoon is free to explore on your own or head to Le Rocher des Doms for city views. Later you'll attend an exclusive classical concert at the Pope's Palace.

Arles
You'll depart before dawn and arrive in Arles for breakfast. This ancient Roman city founded by Julius Caesar has numerous ruins to see. Choose from a guided tour of Roman treasures including the 20,000-seat Las Arenas arena, visit an olive farm in the Alpilles region with tastings and then head to the medieval city of Les Baux, take a painting class exploring Van Gogh's heritage, or try a Provence herbal workshop making lavender products (available late June through mid-August).
