Itinerary
- Day 1
Dakar
You'll fly into Dakar this afternoon. Your guide meets you at the airport and takes you to your hotel, giving you time to settle in and get oriented to Senegal's capital.
- Day 2
Dakar to Lompoul
Head inland to Touba to see the great mosque, one of Africa's largest and a spiritual center for the Mouride faith. After lunch, you'll drive to Lompoul desert with its orange dunes and visit a Fula or nomad village to learn about traditional pastoral life. That evening, you stay in a Bedouin-style camp and watch the sunset over the desert landscape.

- Day 3
Lompoul to St. Louis
Start your morning walking and climbing the dunes around the camp to take in the landscape. Later, head toward St. Louis and stop at a weekly market to see the local colors, spices, and activity. By midday you're in the colonial city, then spend the afternoon touring the old town on the island, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Landmarks St. Louis Old Town - Day 4
St. Louis
You'll spend the full day at Djoudj National Park, a UNESCO site and one of the world's largest bird reserves with about 400 native species plus migratory birds from Europe. The park also has water turtles, crocodiles, warthogs, jackals, and gazelles. Return to St. Louis by late afternoon.

St. Louis to Lac Rose
Leave St. Louis and drive toward Dakar, stopping in Thiès to watch weavers make traditional tapestries. You'll reach Hotel Chez Salim on Lac Rose for lunch, then spend the afternoon at the famous pink-colored salt lake, colored by cyanobacteria.

Landmarks Lac Rose - Day 6
Lac Rose to Dakar to Goree Island
Drive to Dakar and take a ferry to Goree Island, a UNESCO site about three kilometers offshore. This was a major trading center during the slave era. You'll tour the slave house with its historic staircase and the Gate of No Return, then check out the Historical Museum. After lunch on the island, return to Dakar for an afternoon tour of the presidential palace, artists' village, cathedral, and market.

Dakar to Saly
Travel to Saly, a beach destination on the Senegalese Riviera known as the Petite Côte. The sheltered location means pleasant weather year-round. You can walk around town, look for souvenirs, or spend time on the white sandy beach.

Bandia Nature Reserve
This morning you'll head out on an off-road excursion into Bandia Nature Reserve, a 3,500-hectare protected area where African wildlife roams freely. You'll drive through habitats looking for gazelles, antelopes, water buffalo, zebras, giraffes, and if you're lucky, rhinos scattered among baobab trees and thorny bushes. One highlight is visiting the ancient baobab called the 'Tombeau des Griots', which has stood for centuries in this landscape. After that, you'll break for lunch at the park's restaurant before heading back to Saly in the afternoon.

Saly to Saloum Delta
Head to Kaolack, the heart of peanut cultivation and home to one of West Africa's largest markets. After lunch, drive to the Saloum Delta with its marshland, tropical vegetation, and wildlife. You'll explore more than 200 mangrove islands where the Saloum and Sine rivers meet, then visit a village in the afternoon to see how local people live.

Saloum Delta
Take an extended morning boat trip through the mangrove landscape to experience the unique plants and animals. Return to your hotel for lunch, then the rest of the afternoon is yours to relax by the water or at the hotel.

Saloum Delta to Banjul
Travel to The Gambia, Africa's smallest country along the Gambia River. Take a ferry across to Banjul on the south bank, enjoying a picnic lunch during the crossing. In Banjul, you'll get an orientation tour of the capital, then arrive at your hotel early evening, a tropical resort right on Kololi's sandy beach.

Kololi

Kololi to Banjul Airport
Spend the morning checking out the area one more time. In the afternoon, you'll transfer to Banjul Airport for your flight back to Germany. If you'd like, you can also stay a few extra days to extend your trip.
