- Day 1
Avignon
You'll arrive in Avignon by train or fly into Marseille and take the train to Avignon-Centre. From the station, head to your hotel in the city center. This gets you settled in Provence and ready for the week ahead.

Avignon
Start with a guided tour through Avignon's history, walking through narrow streets to reach the market hall where Patrick Blanc's vertical garden covers the walls. You'll see Place de l'Horloge and then the Papal Palace, which dominates the skyline from the 14th century. After crossing the famous Saint-Bénézet bridge with Mont Ventoux visible in the distance, you'll have free time to wander back to your hotel and explore on your own.

Camargue
Spend the day in the Camargue between the Rhône's two arms, where you'll spot black bulls, white horses, and pink flamingos in this protected area. Meet local gardians (the traditional horsemen) and other residents, then experience the Mediterranean lifestyle in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. The landscape here is unlike anything else in Provence, flat and wild with salt marshes everywhere.

Saint-Rémy-de-Provence - Les Baux
Travel through Provence's countryside to Fontvieille, where you'll tour Daudet's mill and taste local olive oils. Continue to Saint-Rémy-de-Provence to walk where Van Gogh once painted, soaking in the southern light he loved. After lunch, head to Les Baux for the medieval castle perched high above the valley with views of the surrounding landscape.

Pont du Gard
Drive to Uzès and walk through medieval streets toward the leaning tower and Tuscan-style market square, where art galleries and small shops line your path. Then see the Pont du Gard, a Roman aqueduct that once carried water 50 kilometers to supply Nîmes. The engineering and scale of it still impresses today, and it's one of the best preserved Roman structures in the region.

Avignon or Aix-en-Provence
Take a free day in Avignon or join the optional excursion to Aix-en-Provence. If you go, walk along Cours Mirabeau past fountains and historic buildings, visit Saint-Sauveur Cathedral where Cézanne spent time, and sample calissons, the almond candy that's a local specialty here. Otherwise, explore Avignon at your own pace and enjoy lunch wherever appeals to you.

Gordes - Sénanque Abbey - Roussillon

Then walk through Roussillon's winding streets, where ochre-colored rocks give the whole place a warm, golden glow.
