Itinerary
- Day 1
Edinburgh
Your guide meets you at Edinburgh airport at 11:30 am on Saturday morning. From there, you'll walk through the medieval alleyways and see the historic architecture that makes Scotland's capital so distinctive. Edinburgh Castle is the main draw here, and you'll get a good sense of it while you're out and about. The Royal Mile connects Holyrood Palace to the castle, so that's a natural route to follow. After exploring the city center, you'll head south to Peebles where you'll spend the next two nights.

After lunch, it's on to Melrose Abbey, a 12th-century ruin with some really nice Gothic stonework. The abbey has connections to Robert the Bruce, and you'll learn about that history while checking out the preserved remains. The architecture and the historical background tie together nicely once you're actually there walking through it.

The Falkirk Wheel is a technical structure that moves boats between two canals using a rotating mechanism. You'll take a boat trip up the Union Canal to see the surrounding landscape from the water. Later in the day, a whisky distillery visit lets you go through the production process and do a tasting. Then it's into Glasgow for a tour focusing on the Victorian buildings, cultural venues, museums and galleries. St. Mungo's Cathedral is on the route. You'll have dinner together at a restaurant before checking into your Glasgow accommodation for two nights.

Stirling Castle sits on a rocky spot with countryside views all around. The ornate architecture and the Great Hall are worth seeing, and the castle played a major role in Scottish independence conflicts. This afternoon takes you to Stephen and Lee's Farm where you'll learn about haggis, how it's made, and get to taste it yourself. Since it's Scotland's national dish, this is a pretty cultural experience. You'll head back to Glasgow in the evening and spend the night exploring restaurants, pubs and bars in the city.

The area has a dark history from 1692 when the Campbell soldiers killed the MacDonald clan, which is why locals call it the Valley of Tears. You'll see the Three Sisters mountains to the south and the Aonach Eagach ridge to the north. Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain, comes into view on the drive toward Aviemore where you're staying for two nights in the Highlands.
