- Day 1
San Jose
You'll arrive in San Jose and settle into your hotel before a welcome meeting at 6 pm. If you get there early, you can head to The Gold Museum to see Indigenous gold art, or wander through Mercado Municipal de Artesanias and Central Market to check out handicrafts and local goods.

- Day 2
San Jose to Sarapiqui
Take a public bus to Sarapiqui, where you'll find lush rainforest and lots of wildlife. You'll have free time to go birdwatching, spot local animals, or hike to nearby waterfalls. Later, a local guide takes you on a jungle walk where you might see sloths, bats, snakes, frogs and other creatures.

- Day 3
Sarapiqui to Puerto Viejo
A private transfer gets you to Puerto Viejo, a laid-back jungle town on the coast. Meet your local leader for an orientation walk, then the rest of the day is yours. Walk the lively main street with its dance halls, reggae bars and restaurants, or relax on the surf beaches near rainforest fruit farms.

- Day 4
Puerto Viejo
This is your free day to soak up the Caribbean coast. Check out Cahuita National Park (about 20 minutes away) to see sloths, monkeys, raccoons, snakes and birds, or try a surf lesson if that appeals to you. Otherwise, kick back with a drink. By evening, you'll prepare a traditional Caribbean dinner with a local family.

Puerto Viejo to Isla Colon (Bocas del Toro)
Travel by private minibus to the border, then walk across an old railway bridge into Panama. From there, take a taxi or collective minivan to Almirante, then a short boat ride to Isla Colon in Bocas del Toro. You'll find palm-shaded beaches, clear waters and great snorkeling. Stay here for the next three nights.

- Day 6
Isla Colon (Bocas del Toro)
Your first free day exploring the tropical archipelago. Several beaches are 8 to 14 km from your hotel. Swim in the waters, explore coral reefs, and take in the island vibes. Starfish, Sandfly and Big Creek are the safest options. When the sun sets, head into town for the bar and restaurant scene.

Isla Popa
Take a boat to Isla Popa to meet the Ngabe-Bugle indigenous community. Local women run a community tourism project, and you'll learn about their lifestyle during an orientation walk through the community. Visit a local home and spend time with a family. Return to Bocas del Toro in the afternoon with the rest of the day free.

- Day 8
Isla Colon to Boquete
Travel by boat and private minibus to Boquete, a highland town surrounded by mountains, clear creeks, rivers, forest reserves and wildflowers, plus coffee and orange plantations. It's a long journey, so bring something to keep you entertained. Meet your leader for an orientation walk and an informal Spanish lesson.

Boquete
You have the day to experience Boquete however you like. Find hidden waterfalls on a jungle walking tour, soak in the Caldera hot springs, or visit a coffee plantation to see how some of the world's best coffee grows and gets processed. Talk to your leader and hotel staff for local tips.

Boquete to Chitre
Leave Boquete and travel to Chitre, arriving around lunchtime. Your leader will give you an orientation walk and point out good lunch spots. After eating, join a traditional mask workshop to learn about Panama's cultural heritage and the elaborate masks used in festivals. The afternoon is free to keep exploring.

Landmarks Chitre - Day 11
Chitre to Panama City
Head out from Chitre toward Panama City this morning. Stop at the Miraflores Visitor Centre to learn about the Panama Canal's history and engineering while overlooking one of the locks. In Panama City, take a leader-led orientation walk through Casco Viejo, taking in skyline views, the waterfront and city life. You can join others for a farewell dinner.
