You'll arrive in Cluj-Napoca and settle into your hotel in this cultural hub at the heart of Transylvania. Spend the rest of the day getting oriented to the city, and your local guides will brief you on what's ahead for the next week of hiking and exploration through this historic region.

Cluj-Napoca - Turda - Rimetea - Sibiel
Start early heading out to the Habsburg-era salt mine at Turda, where you'll walk through the underground chambers and learn about the mining history. Afterward, make your way to the 12th-century village of Rimetea to see the traditional wrought iron craftsmanship. There's an optional short hike to Coltesti if you're feeling energetic (about 1 hour). From there, head into the Carpathian foothills toward Sibiel and visit the glass icon museum, which is quite unique. If you're interested, there's an optional dinner available with a local Romanian farming family to wrap up the day.

Sibiel - Sibiu - Cisnadioara - Sibiel
A guided city tour takes you through medieval Sibiu, where you'll see the old town hall tower, the Bridge of Lies, and walk through the historic squares. Then you'll travel to Cisnadioara village to climb up to the castle hill and check out the oldest Romanesque church in Transylvania. By evening you'll head back to Sibiel.

Sibiel - Rasinari - Paltinis
This is a full-day hiking experience in the Rasinari area. You'll drive early in the morning up to Paltinis at 1,400m, Romania's highest health resort, and then begin approximately a six-hour hike over the Cindrel Mountains. The route passes through Oncesti and Tomnaticu peaks before descending down to Rasinari. Your hiking guide can suggest easier or more difficult routes depending on the weather and what you're comfortable with. You'll return to Sibiel by evening, with an optional dinner available with Romanian farmers if you'd like.

Continue on to Biertan, which was the former bishop's seat, and explore the beautifully restored UNESCO World Heritage fortified church. Before heading back to Sibiel, you'll meet a local German-speaking resident in Altana for coffee.

You're traveling toward Brasov today through the Fogarasan Valley with views of the Fogarasan Mountains along the way. You'll stop at Lake Balea to take in the panoramic valley views. The route also includes a visit to the Orthodox monastery at Sambata, which features impressive Brancoveanu architecture. You'll arrive in Brasov by evening.

Continue on to Prejmer to see two outstanding fortified churches before returning to Brasov for some free time.

Head to Busteni and take the cable car up to the Bucegi Plateau over 2,000m for an active hiking day. You'll explore the Sphinx and Babele rock formations that have been sculpted by nature over many centuries, then trek to the Heroes' Cross monument with views over the Prahova Valley. From there, continue to the Omu summit at 2,505m before returning down via cable car. Your hiking guide can offer easier or more difficult route options based on your preferences.

You're traveling the Road of Fortified Churches to reach Viscri, a village-museum that showcases 19th-century architecture and has an optional morning hike available. There's a farm in Viscri where you can have lunch for an extra cost. Continue through Saschiz to the medieval town of Sighisoara, where you'll explore the castle towers, walls, mountain church, and the birthplace of Vlad Dracul. End the day with a tasting of local schnapps and wine.

Spend the day on a leisurely 25 km cycling tour around the countryside near Sighisoara. You'll pedal through picturesque landscapes and villages with a packed picnic lunch along the way. Starting from town, you'll climb over the station hill for panoramic views, cycle through forests past Hetiur and Soromiclea villages, descend into the valley near Boiu and Topa, then return through forest back to town. Easier or more difficult route options are available depending on what you prefer.
