Ashgabat to Mary
After breakfast, you'll drive toward Anau, which sits at the base of the Kopet Dag Mountains, to see the fortress mosque ruins from Timur's era. From there, the drive takes several hours across steppe landscape to reach Mary, where you'll have dinner.

Mary
You'll start in Mary, Turkmenistan's second-largest city located in the heart of cotton country. From there, head out to Merv, about 25 km away, where you can walk through the striking ruins of what was once the Seljuk Empire's capital and a major Silk Road hub. The Great and Small Kyz Kala stand out among the vast fields of ruins scattered across the site, all protected as a UNESCO World Heritage area. After spending time exploring these historical remains, you'll return to Mary for dinner at a local restaurant to wrap up the day.

Mary to Gonur Depe to Ashgabat
A short drive brings you to the ancient site of Gonur Depe, where you can walk around several uncovered fire temples thought to be an early hub for Zoroastrianism. Lunch comes as a packed box, then you'll head back to Ashgabat for dinner.

Ashgabat
Start your day at Tolkuchka bazaar (depending on what day it falls) to check out silver jewelry, carpets, traditional sheepskin hats, and animals. Later, continue through the city visiting Palace Square, Independence Park, and the Arch of Neutrality. In the afternoon, go to Goekdepe to see the prized Achalteke horses at a breeding farm.

Ashgabat to Darwaza
After breakfast, visit the Ertogrylgazi mosque in Ashgabat, then start heading out toward the Karakum Desert. You'll travel through the Erbent oasis before reaching Darwaza, which sits about 7 km off the main road. Once there, see the burning craters up close and experience this natural spectacle firsthand. As evening falls, settle in for an overnight stay in the desert where you'll sleep in a tent under the stars, and dinner will be served as a picnic under the open sky.

You'll drive roughly 250 km through the Karakum Desert toward Dashoguz in the north. Along the way, stop to see the Shasenem and Diar Bekir fortresses before checking into your hotel for the night.

Dashoguz
Take a 120 km trip out to the Konya Urgench excavations, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and early Islamic center on the old Silk Road. Walk through important structures like the Turabeg Khanum mausoleum, Kutlug Timur minaret, Sultan Tekesch's mausoleum, and the Il-Arslan mausoleum before returning to Dashoguz for dinner.
