Then board a boat that takes you close to the glacier, navigating past the ice walls on Rico Lake. You'll see the sheer size of this frozen landscape and watch how the ice shifts as you travel along its extent.

    Take a regular bus through the Patagonian steppes for about 3 hours to reach El Chaltén, Argentina's trekking capital. This village sits dominated by Mount Fitz Roy. After you arrive, spend the afternoon exploring the village and surrounding areas at your own pace.

    You have a free day to hike. The main option is Laguna de los Tres, a 10.2 km trail (about 5 hours without stops) starting from San Martín street with marked signs. Or arrange a taxi to Hostería el Pilar and take a different route through Glaciar Piedras Blancas and Laguna Capri. Either way, you'll reach 1,170 meters and see Mount Fitz Roy and a turquoise lake.
