Volkach to Iphofen
Today's a 42 km bike ride along the Altmain loop heading out from Volkach. You'll pass through wine villages like Nordheim, Escherndorf, and Sommerach, and check out grand estates belonging to the Counts of Schönborn and Princes of Castell. Medieval towns with defensive walls dot the route. Plan for about 3.5 hours in the saddle on terrain that's mostly easy with a few short climbs thrown in.

Iphofen to Rottingen
This is a 50 km cycling day that takes about 4.5 hours. You'll start by riding past fortified churches at Markt Einersheim and Mönchsondheim in the morning, then pedal through wine villages in the Keuper region. Later, you'll follow the Gollach valley south into the Tauber Valley, finishing in Rottingen, which is known for its sundials. The difficulty ranges from easy to medium with some varied terrain.

Rottingen to Beckstein/Lauda-Konigshofen
A 36 km day through the Tauber Valley takes about 3 hours of riding. You'll travel along paths connected to the Counts of Hohenlohe's historical influence. Stop and try the Markelsheimer wine if you get the chance. The route passes through Bad Mergentheim and Tauberbischofsheim, areas once favored by Teutonic lords and regional administrators. This stage is quite easy with minimal climbing.

You'll also see Bronnbach Abbey, Wertheim Castle and town, plus Homburg Castle, all adding historical depth to the ride. The terrain stays easy throughout.

Homburg am Main to Erlabrunn
A 39 km day in about 3.5 hours showing that wine grows beyond just the Main valley. You'll ride through villages like Erlenbach and Leinach where agriculture becomes more varied. Between Mainviereck and Maindreieck, farmland takes over. At Zellingen, you're back in the Main valley on the Bocksbeutel route. If you want a side trip, the Rococo Garden near Veitshochheim is optional, about 4 km each way. Terrain is easy with some gentle hills.

Erlabrunn to Sulzfeld
Today brings 46 km and 4 hours of medium-difficulty riding through a region so loaded with vineyards and history that trying every one would be impossible. You'll go through Würzburg, Sommerhausen, Ochsenfurt, Frickenhausen, and Sulzfeld. Each town has its own historical character and wine culture worth exploring when you need to rest.

Sulzfeld to Volkach
Your final cycling day covers 44 km in about 3.5 hours on medium terrain. The real challenge is climbing from Dettelbach up to Neuses am Berg, but once you reach the top, the views of the Main valley and Steigerwald justify the effort. After the descent, you'll ride back to Volkach along the Altmain, completing the wine route journey.
