- Day 1
O Cebreiro
You'll arrive in O Cebreiro on your own schedule, giving you time to settle into this mountain village. The distinctive pallozas (traditional stone houses with thatched roofs) are right there to explore whenever suits you, and the surrounding Galician landscape offers plenty to wander through at your own pace.

Landmarks O Cebreiro - Day 2
O Cebreiro to Triacastela
This is a tough hiking day starting with an ascent to San Roque, where a pilgrim statue greets you before the real climb begins. You'll head up to O Alto do Poio at 1,337 m, which means steep terrain and significant elevation gain. After reaching the summit, the descent toward Triacastela continues through demanding ground, so pace yourself and bring plenty of water.

Triacastela to Sarria
Today's a more relaxed walk through the San Xil valley, one of Galicia's nicest rural areas. The countryside here is peaceful, and you'll have time to actually take in the green hillsides and quiet villages as you make your way toward Sarria. It's a good day to recover from yesterday's harder terrain.

Landmarks San Xil Valley Sarria - Day 4
Sarria to Portomarin
You'll hike through green mountain landscapes with the Rio Mino reservoir visible at various points. The route passes through three small villages: Barbadelo, Mouzos, and Ferreiros. Each one offers a chance to grab water or a snack before you continue on to Portomarin.

Portomarin to Palas de Rei
This stage tackles one of the final major climbs before you reach Santiago. You'll head to Monte San Antonio for some really good views, then continue through Toxibo and Gonzar past the parish church of Santa Maria. From there, the path goes via Hospital de la Cruz and Ventas de Naron before you arrive in Palas de Rei.

Palas de Rei to Melide
The terrain rolls up and down through hills, with streams and small hamlets scattered along the way. You'll pass through Melide, which sits at the geographical center of Galicia, and can stop to see the Romanesque church of Santa Maria. It's a nice spot to break for lunch and get your bearings.

Melide to Arzua
As you walk today, you'll start seeing traditional Galician corn barns more frequently. Stone crosses and religious carvings of the Virgin Mary appear along the path, and these become more common the closer you get. It's a good sign that Santiago is getting nearer.

Landmarks Arzua - Day 8
Arzua to O Pedrouzo
This stage is easier than most, taking you through lush meadows and then into forests of oak and eucalyptus before reaching O Pedrouzo. The shorter distance gives you real time to think about what you've accomplished on this pilgrimage so far and enjoy the quieter pace.

Landmarks O Pedrouzo - Day 9
O Pedrouzo to Santiago de Compostela
Your final day leads you to Santiago itself. You'll cross the River Labacolla, where medieval pilgrims once stopped to clean themselves. After that, Monte del Gozo (the Mountain of Joy) offers your first glimpse of the city. Then you'll walk into the old town and enter the cathedral through the ornate Portico de la Gloria.

Santiago de Compostela
You have the day to explore Santiago de Compostela on your own terms. A guided tour takes you through the historic center and its narrow streets, showing you the main squares and important buildings. Later, you'll sit down for a traditional Galician cheese tasting at a local tavern, which is a nice way to celebrate finishing the walk.
