Ponta Delgada
You'll touch down in Ponta Delgada and head to pick up your rental car. The drive to your hotel takes about 15 minutes, so you'll have time to settle in, grab dinner somewhere nearby, and rest up before things get going tomorrow.

- Day 2
Ponta Delgada to Pico
After breakfast at the hotel, you'll drive back to the airport and return your rental car. Your flight to Pico gets you there by early afternoon, and then you'll pick up a fresh rental and drive to your accommodation. It's about a 20-minute drive from the airport, so you'll have the evening to explore town or relax at your hotel.

Pico
During your three nights here, a 3-hour whale watching trip departs from Lajes on either day 3 or 4 (depends on conditions and bookings). On the other days, you've got plenty of options. The whaling museum in Lajes tells the region's history, or if you're up for a hike, Pico's volcano trail rewards you with views from Portugal's highest point. The central highlands also offer good walking if that's more your speed.

Pico to Ponta Delgada
After breakfast, you'll drive to the airport, return your rental car, and catch your flight back to São Miguel. Once you land in Ponta Delgada, you'll pick up another rental and head to your hotel for a 3-night stay. You should be settled by late afternoon, leaving time for dinner in town if you're not too tired from the flight.

Ponta Delgada
You've got a 3-hour whale watching trip scheduled from Ponta Delgada port on either day 6 or 7, so check your confirmation. With your remaining time, head east toward Furnas to check out the geothermal hot springs and Cook in natural steam vents, or go west to Sete Cidades where you'll find two crater lakes, Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Verde. Both spots are worth the drive, and you can split your time between them across the three days.
