- Day 1
Oslo to Elverum
You'll arrive in Oslo, and if you're coming by ferry from Kiel, you'll dock at 10 a.m. From there, drive through eastern Norway's wild landscapes toward Elverum, watching for moose along the route. This village becomes your base for the night.

- Day 2
Elverum to Røros
The drive takes you through the striking Rendalsølen mountains toward the highlands and Lake Femund, Norway's largest mountain lake. Then head to Røros, the highest town in Norway and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk through Kjerkgata to see the impressive church, check out Bergmannsgata, and explore the mining district by the Glomma river. The old wooden houses here form a kind of open-air museum, and you might recognize some filming locations from the Pippi Longstocking movies. Sleep in the Røros area.

Røros to Stiklestad
Leave Røros heading toward Glåmos and Lake Aursunden. You'll cross a fascinating highland with views of the Sylen Mountains, then continue through the unspoilt Stugudal valley to Stjørdalen and Verdal. Arrive at Stiklestad, the national cultural center where Norway's state is considered to have begun and where Trondheim's history as a cathedral city originated. Stay one night in the Stiklestad area.

Stiklestad to Trondheim
Travel from Stiklestad to Trondheim along the scenic Golden Detour, which winds over the Fosen peninsula and along the beautiful Trondheim Fjord. You'll pass local farms, art galleries, craft workshops, and agricultural museums where you can sample regional specialties. In Trondheim, visit Nidaros Cathedral, Scandinavia's largest medieval cathedral where Norwegian kings are blessed on taking office. See the Bakkalandet UNESCO World Heritage settlement and Kristiansten Fortress. The city's known for its cultural scene and charming harbor. Stay in a suburb of Trondheim.

Trondheim to Kristiansund
Drive along the Atlantic coast through beautiful islands, some connected by impressive bridges and others by short ferry crossings. You'll arrive in the Kristiansund area for one night.

Kristiansund to Årsta
The Atlantic Road connects coastal towns to Molde, nicknamed the 'Rose City' because roses flourish in its mild Gulf Stream climate. If weather permits, take the Trollstigen route, a serpentine road with 11 hairpin bends climbing 850 meters with fjord and fell views. Continue to Ålesund on three islands, rebuilt in distinctive Art Nouveau architecture after a major fire in the early 20th century. Walk around Kirkegate, Apotekergata, and the pedestrian zone Kongens gate, or climb Aksla hill for panoramic views of the city and offshore islands. Then travel via fjord highlights to Ørsta on the Voldafjord. Spend two nights in the Ørsta area.

Ørsta - Geiranger Day Trip
After breakfast, take a day trip to Geiranger. Travel from Ørsta to Hellesylt, then experience a 65-minute ferry crossing through the famous Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where you'll see the Seven Sisters waterfalls. Walk through the small town center with its boathouses and old wooden houses. Take the waterfall trail from Storfossen waterfall to the Norwegian Fjord Center, which has 327 steps with viewing platforms. Explore the Eagle Road serpentine with its unique viewpoint. If it's clear, consider heading to Dalsnibba viewpoint for panoramic fjord views. Return to Ørsta via Gamle Strynvegen.

- Day 8
Ørsta to Bergen
From the Voldafjord, head toward the Nordfjord and then to the longest and deepest fjord in Norway. Cross the 205 km long Sognefjord at Lavik toward Bergen, the historic Hanseatic city. Explore the Bryggen warehouse district's densely built historic wooden houses, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that feels like stepping back 400 years. Browse museums and galleries. Optionally ride the funicular to Mount Fløien for views of the city, mountains, fjords, and sea. Stay in a suburb of Bergen.

Bergen to Hardangerfjord
In the morning, take another opportunity to tour historic Bergen. Then continue to the Hardangerfjord, known as the mild fjord with lush fruit trees and wonderful scenic routes. Arrive at Norheimsund and check out its maritime museum about life on the fjord. Sleep one night in the Hardangerfjord region.

Hardangerfjord to Stavanger
The route crosses the Hardangerfjord and goes under the Folgefonna glacier to Odda at the southern point of the inner Hardangerfjord. After a naturally beautiful mountain section, travel along the Åkrafjord past the striking Langfossen waterfall toward Haugesund, where it's worth visiting this beautiful maritime town and its Viking museum. Continue through the Boknafjord archipelago to Stavanger. See Stavanger domkirke, the only medieval cathedral in Norway built in the original Anglo-Norman-Gothic style from 1125. Wander through Gamle Stavanger with its carefully maintained white-painted wooden houses from the 18th and 19th centuries, plus colorful facades. Stay one night in Stavanger.

Stavanger to Egersund
You can choose between two routes today: travel via the Lysefjord by ferry or take the coastal route through the dune landscape. From the Lysefjord, head toward the North Sea, then follow the Jæren panoramic road through the cultural landscape of the fertile coast to idyllic Egersund. One night in the Egersund area.

- Day 12
Egersund to Setesdal
Drive along the North Sea coastal road with winding routes tight between cliffs. Highlights include the cultural village of Sogndalstrand and the Jøssingfjord with the houses of Helleren, built under a rocky outcrop for natural protection. Continue inland along Lake Sirdal toward the upper highlands on a partly steppe-like highland route across lake plateaus, including Lake Øyarvatn, reaching Setesdal and the small town of Rysstad. One night in the Setesdal region.

Setesdal to Skien
The route takes you through Setesdal into the densely wooded Telemark region. First reach the traditional village of Dalen. At elongated Lake Vråvatn you come to Vrål on the Telemark Canal. A scenic route leads in serpentines to Lake Kviteseid and further along remote Lake Flåvatn to Lake Nordsjo and Skien, the capital of Telemark. One night in the Skien area.
