Reykjavik
You'll arrive in Reykjavik, and depending on your flight time, the Blue Lagoon is right there if you want to jump in before hitting the city. Otherwise, spend the afternoon walking around Iceland's capital on your own or catching a hop-on-hop-off tour to get oriented.

- Day 2
Golden Circle Route
Today's the Golden Circle route, Iceland's most popular day trip. Start at Thingvellir National Park where you can actually see tectonic plates meeting, then head to the geothermal area to watch Strokkur hot spring erupt every 5 to 10 minutes alongside the dormant Great Geysir. Wrap up at Gullfoss waterfall to finish the loop.

- Day 3
South Coast to Vík
Drive south into glacier country and see Seljalandsfoss waterfall, where you'll walk behind the falling water. Then it's on to Skógafoss, which is pretty powerful. A professional guide takes you on a certified glacier hike at Sólheimajökull with all the gear provided. Later, check out Reynisfjara beach with its black sand and basalt columns, then settle into the village of Vik for the night.

- Day 4
East Iceland Glaciers
Hotel checkout at 8 am and you're heading east through glacier-filled landscapes and dramatic mountain scenery. See Vatnajökull glacier from Skaftafell, then move on to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon where icebergs drift around. Diamond Beach shows off chunks of blue ice on black sand. If you're visiting between October and March, a super jeep takes you into the Crystal Blue Ice Cave with a glacier guide.

- Day 5
East Fjords
The East Fjords area is quieter and more remote, with small fishing villages tucked into the landscape and plenty of wildlife to spot. You can either ride Icelandic horses through the backcountry, or skip that and relax at VÖK Baths, which is a geothermal spa with a more luxurious feel than the crowds at Blue Lagoon.

North Iceland
This day covers Iceland's wildest terrain. Between May and September you'll check out Studlagil Canyon with its blue-green water and basalt pillars, then head to Dettifoss, one of the most powerful waterfalls around. From there, Lake Mývatn and its geothermal features come next, including the colorful Námaskarð Pass with orange earth, bubbling mud, and steam vents. You'll see the lava rocks at Dimmuborgir and stop at Goðafoss waterfall before reaching Akureyri in the evening, where conditions are right for Northern Lights hunting.

- Day 7
Whale Watching to West Iceland
After breakfast, head to the fishing village of Hauganes and board a boat with one of Iceland's oldest whale-watching operators. You'll be out on the North Atlantic looking for Humpback Whales and other marine life, and warm clothing is provided since it gets cold out on the water. Later in the day, drive to your hotel on Iceland's west coast near Borgarfjörður.

Snæfellsnes Peninsula
Travel from the north coast to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, which is loaded with volcanic activity, dramatic peaks, and glaciers. Stop at Gerðuberg's hexagonal basalt columns, then Ytri-Tunga beach where seals hang out on white sand. Djúpalónssandur beach has some freestanding lava pillars worth seeing, and you'll get time at Kirkjufell mountain, the iconic peak from Game of Thrones.

West Iceland Lava Caves and Waterfalls
Spend 1.5 hours on a guided tour through Víðgelmir, Iceland's largest lava cave, learning about volcanic history as you walk through it. Check out Deildartunguhver, Europe's most powerful hot spring with water that actually boils and steam rising everywhere. Reykholt is next, connected to historical figure Snorri Sturluson, then you'll see two waterfalls: Hraunfossar with its streams flowing through dark lava and Barnafoss with a blue stream cutting through a narrow canyon. You'll be back in Reykjavik around 8 pm.

Departure
If your flight leaves later in the day, head to the Blue Lagoon Spa one more time before driving to the airport. Otherwise, use the morning to grab some souvenirs or just relax before heading out.
