Itinerary
- Days 1 - 2
Meteora
You'll start by heading to the Meteora monasteries, which sit on top of these massive rock pillars that rise straight up from the ground. These monasteries go back to the 11th century and are actually a UNESCO site, so there's real historical weight to the place. The views from up there are incredible, and you'll get a sense of why monks chose such dramatic locations. Walking around between the different monasteries takes time, so plan to spend most of your day here. The spiritual atmosphere is genuine, and it's a chance to see how people lived in such remote spots centuries ago.

You've got options here depending on what appeals to you, whether that's hiking through the park, cycling around the area, or heading down to Galaxidi's beaches at Kalafati or Hirolaka to relax. The Temple of Zeus and the ancient Stadium give you a real sense of scale and importance. The Gymnasium is there too, showing how athletes trained back then. It's a UNESCO site, which says something about its significance. You're literally standing where competition, honor, and athletic ideals took shape in ancient Greece, so it's one of those places with genuine historical resonance.

You can check out the Museum of Worry Beads, which has over 600 different types if that interests you, then head up to Palamidi fortress. The fortress itself is an architectural thing to see, and from up there the views of the city and surrounding area are really good.
