    Rome

You'll touch down in Rome and have the day to yourself until the 6 pm welcome meeting. If your flight gets in early, the Colosseum and Roman Forum are right there waiting for you, and Piazza Navona's worth a wander too. 2. Day 2

    Rome to Naples - Pompeii

The train carries you south to Naples, a city that's been shaped by centuries of different rulers. Your guide walks the group through the historic center and Spanish Quarter, then you'll taste authentic Neapolitan pizza (it's literally where pizza was invented). You'll also participate in caffe sospeso, the local tradition of buying someone else's coffee. After that, another train ride takes you to Pompeii where you'll settle into your accommodation near the archaeological site.

  3. Day 3

    Pompeii

Start with Italian coffee and people-watching in Pompeii's Old Town square. The main event is a guided walk through the ancient ruins, which got frozen in place when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. You'll see beautifully preserved villas, temples, theaters, and markets that show how Romans actually lived 2,000 years ago. The afternoon's yours to relax or, if you're up for it, check out nearby Herculaneum.

You'll hike to the summit to take in 360-degree views of the Bay of Naples and look down into the crater (it's still active, though the last eruption was back in 1944). Later, the same vehicle brings you to Sorrento, a resort town with nice piazzas, winding streets, and lemon groves everywhere. Finish with a limoncello tasting.

Great tour, lots to see and very well organized! That path of the gods is a big one, be ready for the stairs going down to Positano even if you're in the best of shape!

What great advice, Benoit! Thank you for sharing your experience- and understandably, elevations and plenty of stairs (as well as walking) can catch many of us winded where and there. We are so happy to know that you had a fantastic adventure with us,... Show more
